As a companion piece to Manny's thread, what are some of the covers you've heard that just make you cringe and... well, cover your ears? (apologies to any who liked these or posted them in the previous thread) For me, it's: Madonna - American Pie Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child Of Mine Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi (and they used to be one of my favorite bands...)
My vote for worst cover is: UB40's "Can't Help Falling in Love" (original Elvis) I have no idea how this cover got to #1 on the Top 40 charts, while the original never made it to #1 in the US. Ugh. Absolutely killed my favorite Elvis song.
A long, long, long time ago, I actually heard Britney Spears *attempt* to sing "Satisfaction" (attempt is the key word here). I think that scared me straight off of her singing! Also bad are any lame bands or groups that try to do Floyd such as, I don't know, but maybe KORN and the SCISSOR SISTERS.
I LOVE the scissor sisters. I can't stand anything by her. "First Cut is the Deepest" and "Soak up the Sun" can make ears bleed.
Any cover done by Melissa Etheridge, she should be banned from doing them. In fact it should be the 28th Ammendment. Cat's in the Cradle - Ugly Kid Joe? Knockin on Heaven's Door - GnR Any "man" that has ever covered "You make me feel like a natural woman" by Carole King and changed the woman to man. Talk about turning in your man card. Tutti Frutti - Pat Boone, and yet somehow it didn't destroy Rock and Roll. Kiss - Tom Jones
Melissa Ethridge - Refugee (orig. Tom Petty) Orgy - Blue Monday (orig. New Order) The Offspring - Smash It Up (orig. The Damned) 311 - Love Song (orig. The Cure)
Superstar - Ruben - The fat guy from American Idol (Although it's a cover of a cover. Luther Vandross' cover of the Capenter's classic.)
any band that tries to cover Doors' songs, sucks. they kill it EVERY time.. for that matter.. any band that dares to try and cover any song that's originally done to perfection, sucks..
Scissor Sisters = excellent. I heard this cover the other day. I don't know who it was. It was some woman trying to do "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits. AND. IT. WAS. AWFUL. I almost died. Edit: Wait, was it the Indigo Girls?
