Ruta Maya International Headquarters Honored to be Named #5 Top Coffee Bar in the U.S. by Food & Wine Magazine! http://rutamaya.net/ http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/an-obsessives-guide-to-coffee (Great info on coffee products too) Guess I need to revisit RM. I only visited it once at the 4th street location and in the Summer ... prob 100+ degrees inside ... maybe that's why I did not enjoy the coffee much.
i need a place to study for my CPA in austin...is this a good place to go? or more for hanging out SoCo style
From what I hear from the parents at my school, it's a really great place to take your kids while you (well, parents) go and have coffee. So, just be forwarned, if you go at a kid-friendly time, you might encounter a lot of kids, which is not so great for studying. But I do hear that they have a bunch of cool stuff for adults too, although I'm not sure how many of you would be interested in Yoga classes or anything of that nature... I'll probably never give them my patronage, just because I'm so damn sick of watching the kids and dealing with parents at my school, I certainly don't want to have to interact with most of them on my free time.
This is my third year, but I've made the mistake of babysitting for some parents and those are the parents who frequent Ruta Maya's. Just based on that alone is why I won't go there. I won't go to a few other places around Austin because I know students and parents who frequent there. It's my free time, and I'd like to be able to feel free to swear, smoke, or drink a beer whenever I should choose. If I go to Ruta Maya's that won't happen. During school, I'll watch your kid like they were my own, and I'll make conversation with you and act like everything's nice and wonderful. After school, you and your kid can go fly a kite. It's my time now, b****!
Also for all the Coffee Geeks out there, there is a website and forum dedicated to coffee. http://www.coffeegeek.com/ I have a good friend, jonr10, who is very active there. He roasts his own beans and makes unbelieveable coffee. His coffee beats any coffee shop I have ever been to and his pours look like art. No kidding, he posts pics of his pours.
Pretty much the tops coffee site, imo. I used their consumer opinions when selecting a roaster. I even have 2 small kona bean plants.
