The dude is a beast. Suns lost Kurt Thomas for the 6 weeks now and they started Boris Diaw as center. The Suns still aren't better than the Mavs and Spurs IMO.
Their system is what makes them go, they can use interchangeable pieces and still enjoy similar success...it's a testament to their system and the engine behind that system (Nash).
I think it is a testament to Nash more than anything else. Without Nash, you can't run that system. That said, even with Nash, I can't see how that system ever wins a championship, but I guess they have as good a shot as anyone??
Per Tigermisssion1: "Their system is what makes them go, they can use interchangeable pieces and still enjoy similar success...it's a testament to their system and the engine behind that system (Nash)." I agree- Colangelo hiring that coach-then having the foresight to sign Nash to operate the coaches system -synchronicity or Synergy. Many various factors coming together with other mobile players like Marion to make it run. Brilliant.
the suns and the mavs are exactly like the colts , great team, but they can't go all the way, shawn marion is mvp if he keeps it up
No system makes a person get 24 rebounds from the small foward position. The matrix is the most underated player in the league in my opinion. The dude has a higher career rebound number than almost every center in the league not named shaq and he plays the 3.
If the MVP goes to a player on the Suns not named Nash, it would be an absolute crime. And rockbox, Marion has been playing the 4 for the past year and a half.
You can't compare NBA with NFL. The NFL playoffs only give you one chance to beat a team. If you have an off game, or if your opponent has an incredible game, or an unlucky bounce here and there, you are out. In the NBA, you play 7-game series. The best team usually go all the way. So if the Suns are truly "great team" (which is still debatable) as you say, they should have a very good chance to go all the way.
NBA FastBreak ran a trivia thing.. Marion had 75 pts and 41 rebs in 2 games. Apparently the last person to do that in 2 consec. games was...Hakeem in '90. 79 and 42 or something close to that. pretty sick
shawn marion is a great player, i actually think he's better then amare, but nash and that system do alot to make him what he currently is.
Marion is a beast in regular seasons. But he generally chokes in playoffs. His numbers in playoffs take a plunge.
1. Even though he officially plays the four, he plays the 3 position. He plays away from the basket. When is the last time you saw marion post anyone up. He always gets the ball around the 3 point line. 2. The only time marion averaged less that 9 1/2 rebounds was his rookie season when he average 6.5 which is still great from the 3. The bottom line is that he is a freak of nature and greatly underrated. Not to say he doesn't have any weaknesses. They guy really can't really dominate on the offensive end because he doesn't have a go to move.
Shawn Marion may be the best garbage man in history. He just gets the job done. But I wonder if he will choke in the playoffs like last year. I also believe Nash is hugely responsible for Marion's great stats. Right now I'd give Nash the MVP award again.
Short and quick ball comes to the Toy Box on Monday. Yao should stay close to the basket, he could DOMINATE the rebounding if he is ready to play. DD
I think Marion is just as responsible for the Suns success as Nash. 31pts and 24reb are unreal numbers, but what isn't measured is his defensive impact. When you have a guy as quick and long as him on defense, it creates havoc for offenses. He alters so many shots, can shut down a 2,3, or 4 guard if needed and Marion gets to loose balls fast. When you have a guy like that you can gamble a bit more on defense and get things rolling, IMO this is why the suns are such a good run and gun team. Sure, Nash is a BIG part of that but players like Marion get that started.
I hear what you're saying, but there is no way Marion is as important to the Suns as Nash. I agree Marion is a decent defender while Nash is pretty sorry. But Nash is the heart & soul (and head) of their team and they are lost without him. Just watch them play. Marion hustles, plays hard and does a great job but game in game out Nash is the man. If the Suns were missing Nash this season instead of Amare, their record would be much worse. If they were missing Marion instead of Amare, their record would be better. Nash makes teammates better. Marion doesn't.
