He scored 6 on the Wonderlic test. The average score in the US is 22, and a score of 10 (according to Charlie Wonderlic Jr. president of Wonderlic Inc.) is the lowest score in which a person can be considered literate. Not sure what it means on the football field, but I doubt it helps his draft status.
mattj.. thanks for the post.. I know you said not sure what it means on football field, but do you think it may push him out of the 2nd qb taken spot?
bigtexx.. I gotta admit, that pic made me laugh I won't make fun of Vince though because I don't know the guy nor do I know if that score really reflects his abilities, however, I would think if the NFL gives the test they must think it is important.. and would hurt his stock at least some. I would imagine if he retakes the test, his score will go up at least some..
I don't exactly what the score means in football terms, but Pro Football Weekly's website has some good material on the subject on what the NFL looks for in this regard. Here are the average scores by position that the league looks for. QB 24 RB 16 FB 17 WR 17 TE 22 OT 26 OG 23 C 25 DL 20 LB 19 CB 18 Safeties 19 Vince's 6 score is the lowest in the history of the combine for QB's eclipsing the score of Akili Smith a few years ago. I don't know that this affects his draft status too drastically, because I don't think he was a lock to go in the top 3. The Texans no matter what you hear from their talking heads are taking Reggie Bush barring a Herschel Walkeresque trade. The Saints are taking Leinert, and I don't think it's a given that the Titans will take a QB. The Jets have Jay Cutler as their 2nd rated QB behind Leinert, so Vince could end up in Arizona or Oakland potentially. No higher than #3 on Vince though...still will be a top 15 pick.
Matt, what is the likelihood that an investigation into UT's academic integrity will be launched? If Vince Young is truly illiterate, which his score clearly implies (he would have to improve his score by 66% to achieve "literate" status), do you think that UT fudged the numbers on his SAT score? How did he pass his courses at UT if he can't read?
mattj.. thanks for the info. I've emailed you from Nashville before... it is nice to see that Cutler is now a lot higher than he was projected last time I asked you about him. I also don't see Vince slipping out of top 15. Someone will overlook the score, especially since they would have considered him a steal to get out of the top 5 a couple weeks ago.
Thanks Matt. I don't think this test score should be too much of an indicator of what he does on the field, the guy is obviously a winner. I do think it will make some teams think twice though, given that there was already a perception out there that he wasn't ready to run a pro style offense.
all i know is i bet the cowboys are smiling if he fell I believe they would try and find a way to package and get him. I doubt the raiders care either. To me if he can play football and he can show us he can read a def. then screw this test
well you never know who leaked the info. Possibly a team who really wants bush but the city wants Vy because he is a local hero. well now this team can take the player they want and spin the pr problem over questions on his mental ability
Wow, living vicariously through a game in the first month of his freshman year that he didn't even start. Aggies take pathetic to an entirely new level.
It is the first photo I found when I googled Vince Young radio. He is a special talent, anyone that dumb that can win a national title and run a team must be good.
UPDATE An NFL insider on ESPN Radio has reported that the rumor of Vince scoring a 6 is "100% inaccurate" and is false. Of course, this is not exactly confirmed either, but it has just as much credibility as the initial PFT report.
Honestly I think it may be false.. just for this reason he has such a buzz going if it was true and already leaked it would be picked up everywhere.
