Let me guess...TMac's fiance's mother found out that TMac is breaking up with her daughter and she's not getting a dime out of it, so she had a heart attack.

I know...not very sensitive statements but i can't help it.

So you would rather be an insensitive incosiderable jerk rather than show some self-restraint?

We will have yet to find that out. Besides, the Warriors sometimes actually play better without Baron Davis.

I've been reading this board for a long long long time - but rarely post. The reason I rarely post is because the overall attitude of this board is juvenille. and the things that people are saying tonight just confirms it

I can't believe that you guys are actually debating what the implications on the court will be from this.

actually I do believe it - cuz it just confirms for me what kind of mindset you all are coming from

well you all have a lot to learn -

Its not everyone here, but the ones who find it to be a joke, they had better hope God is on their side the day tragedy strikes their lives because its sure enough coming.

For whatever job, a family death is a legitimate reason to be away from the job for a few days or so. Just because one person choose to keep working doesn't mean other people should do the same under similar circumstance. I respect Tmac's choice even if it's game 7 of the finals.

You started the sentence with "if Brett Favre". THat in and of itself is insulting to anybody who deals with a death in their family.

Unless Brett Favre is the universal standard of moral consciousness, your argument fails. Brett Favre is an athlete not a model of heroism. I could argue what he did was disrespectful of his father's honor. ANd the fact that the game was nationally televised could mean that he was looking for attention.

Please be more respectful and sensitive to others' decisions

Give Lebron a break. He's cocky, and he's arrogant, and it's annoying, but he's only 21 years old. If I remember correctly, a young McGrady wanted out of Toronto so he could be "the man." For a while, all he really cared about were individual accolades.

Five or six years from now, if Lebron is still putting individual accomplishments above his team's, then I'll hop aboard the hate train. Until then, I chalk it up to his young age.

i disagree, favre is a major sports star and comparing his and tracy\'s situation is a fair comparison. for the rest i think you are just being dramatic.

well this is much stronger statement and not a fair comparison with my original comment.

Well, even ignoring the fact that how one deals with death is a personal decision... A football game is 1/16 of a season, a bigger deal, than a single basketball game, which is 1/82 of a season.

...Now that I wrote that, it seems a little cold for me to say that a family member's death is worth more than 1/82 of a sports season, but less that 1/16 of a sports season. That's ridiculous. I feel a little embarrassed to make that argument, but will leave it on here for the sake of argument and/or discussion...

I really feel, as a previous poster stated, that a family death is a legit reason to take a day off of work no matter what the circumstances...

On a related subject, am I the only one that thought that Vince Carter was more than justified in flying out to attend his college graduation during the 2001 playoffs?

When that happened, there was so much talk about him deserting his team and being selfish for doing that. You would have thought he was skipping out to watch the Super Bowl based on everyone's reaction. ;)

To me personal and family milestones are much more important than any one day on the job. Its not even like he missed an actual game. I respected him more for taking the time off to attend his graduation. It shows he has his priorities straight.

I thought people made too much of a big deal about it. Different people have different priorities, and obviously his graduation meant quite a lot to him. And it's not like he put graduation ahead of winning Game 7. He attended the practice that morning, took the one-hour flight to attend part of the ceremony, and came back with plenty of time left before the game. He had an off shooting night (6-18) and missed the potential game winner, but overall he had a pretty decent road game (20 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, 0 turnovers).

Would things have ended differently if he skipped his graduation? Who knows. Maybe they would have won, maybe they would have lost by more. There's no way we can know, so it's silly to blame that for the loss.
