He wanted to jump from that stripe, but after that bobble on his first attempt he forgot all about it, then he dunked it with both hands from the free throw line, has that ever been done before? After that on the second dunk attempt he knew a 50 wasn't going to get it done, so he said **** it, got it over with and called it a night. That's what I think...
Agreed. In the finals, I think they should just have the dunkers alternate and then the judges vote on who had the better dunk that "round". With 5 judges and 3 rounds of dunks, you'd have a clear decision, and this makes it easier to reward the guy who has the better dunks overall.
well sucking ass makes it harder to play basketball, but they don't give ryan bowen the mvp every year just for making a team. it should be about the best dunker, not most overachieving. nate's dunk in the dunk off was not as good as AI's. i don't care if between the legs has been done before (didn't he do a different version before), it was better than nate's. and if you lose points for repeating, you sure as hell should lose points for taking 14 tries. not really. he tried one dunk about 8 times, then switched to an easier dunk for another 6 shots at it. and andre's 2 dunks in the finals were better than nate's (especially since nate took another 8 tries or so for his second dunk), even if the dunk over spud was the best of the 4. and josh smith's first score of 41 was a little ridiculous. smith didn't really bring any energy or excitement (neither did warrick and both suck for not bringing enthusiasm) but a 41 on a 2-hander from near the free throw line? geez. if nate did that from 10 feet out they would've just handed him the trophy and told the others to go home.
I think Nate definitely deserved it. His finals dunks were at least interesting. AIs final dunks were nice and difficult I am sure, but I didn't see any flare in it at all. I thought they were actually pretty boring. Nate at least had some showmanship in there. NOW ... AIs first round dunk off the back of the backboard was the dunk of the night. Showmanship and high difficulty ... If he would have saved that for the finals, he would have definitely won. P.S. In the rules a player is not penalized for missing dunks, so they should not be held against them. Next year they should make the max score be a 9 or something after 3 missed dunks if they really want to penalize, but that wasn't the case so I don't think the misses should count against Nate one bit.
i dont see how people can say andre got robbed. that dunk with allen was by far one of the best dunks ive seen, and arguably the best dunk ever. but after that it seemed like he was doing **** that we have already seen, the behind his bank alternating hands dunk was done by J.R. Smith and the between the legs from the side was done by JR Rider and everyone else who has ever dunked in the past 5 years pretty much. I say this was one of the better dunk contests ive seen. this and the vc/sf3 were the best. i dont see how andre was robbed, he deserved the scores he got. he half assed his way after that bad ass dunk from behind the goal. i guess he felt he could cruise to a win. but that little dude has hops. nate deserved it hands down. i hope we see a rematch next year. and put kobe and lebron in it, since it seemed they had alot to say.
im bout to go out n get drunk so i dont really have any interest in arguing with u .. but yeah i agree points should be taken off for so many tries.. however iguodalas dunk wasnt like a walk off homerun either.. i think the judges purposely sent it to overtime because neither won it outright in the final round.. to me, nate had the best dunk of the night.. so i dont feel bad about him winning it.. it kinda makes sense.. whats with all the rounds for any? lol
The dunk over Webb was the winner, dunk-off or not. A.I.'s under the basket dunk was also awesome, but the Spud dunk was just amazing.
that was the most amazing contest in history unfortunatley it was a bad ending igodala should have won but he could have been creative at the end then robinson won, but he didnt seem happy because the crowd boos would hurt a guy like that but in the end best dunk contest ever i think
iguodala should have stopped REPEATING dunks. he did the behind the back once and made it...amazing dunk. but then for his next dunk he attempted it again and missed it - so he then went for the between the legs...... ......which he then did again in the dunk off. he should have just went for the guaranteed win and finished with a free-throw line dunk. then we'd all be talking about his off-the-back-of-the-backboard dunk as being on of the greatest of all time instead of having to worry about conspiracy or whatever. free-throw line would have won it. period. especially with some showmanship (lifting the arms, raising the roof, or whatver). exclamation mark. 'lil nate had some nice dunks...and whatever, he won it...but iguodala had one of the greatest dunks EVER - but it'll never be argued for in any context because you HAVE TO WIN the dunk comp in order to be considered among the greatest ever.
how do you figure? smith did free throw line with 2 hands and got the lowest score of the night with a 41. i just really don't see how anyone can argue nate should've gotten a 47 after 14 tries for what amounted to catching it off the backboard and dunking (he sort of windmilled it but he didn't bring it down much). i mean that really deserved two 10's? i don't care how passe b/t the legs has become, a normal dunk off the backboard is about 15 years even more passe than that. and catching it and going behind the back is another level up from j.r. smith's already amazing behind the back dunk from last year. basically AI's 44 in the finals (b/t the legs, opposite hand, 1 try) was better than nate's 44 (vanilla b/t the legs after many tries) and his dunk off dunk was better. either way, nice contest, AI should've won. hell, the crowd was booing the result and houston fans don't get motivated easily so obviously a decent number of people felt he got robbed.
i blame it on kenny smith he thinks he knows so much about dunks or something. He's the one that screwed Andre over cuz he wanted a tie at the end so he scored it accordingly
I thought AI's behind the backboard dunk was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Creative, athletic etc. Nate Robinson's though were also amazing, his height, no doubt, let him win. It took him a lot of attempts, but you could tell he's done them quite a few times. I thought it should have been a tie at the end, but those things don't ever happen. The judges should have just been steadfast and picked a winner without contoversy, but one or two of them were unable to score without looking at the other judges, that's just wrong.
i love the expression of spud's face when he did that. he leaned back a bit and turned around. If Nate didn't pick up his right ankle a bit, he would have clipped spud on the shoulder.
Nate won because his dunks were better overall. AI2's between the legs was done 10 times better by J-Rich. AI2's behind the backboard was a classic, but the other dunks weren't as spectacular. Last year AI would have won.
dunk over spudd was great, the between the legs was great, and the spin dunk was pretty good too ... he had three treats AI had that backboard which was spectacular, the last dunk really wasn't that great, the other behind the back flush was pretty good both had one memorable dunk (about even), another spectacular dunk (about even), and pretty good third dunks, although nate's third was better on the third to break the tie trouble is, nate got alot of tries but never got penalized... if you think he should have been, then you prolly thought he should have lost, but if you disregard that then he should win josh smith got scewed with a 41.... those judges were terrible
