    Same on Sam Jones, kind of- but I sort of agree with the thinking that you've got to have several guys from the Celtics "Octo-peat" era on there aside from Russell and Cousy. (granted, I just said Parish should be off, but with all due respect to those Celts - the Huit-peat trumps 3 titles in 6 years)

    I'd get rid of Lenny Wilkens - a nice player but his playing career was comparable to that of Kevin Johnson (who has no chance on this list) and he wasn't really revolutionary in any way.

    Another word about the old guys - and this goes for every sport, mind you. While the league wasn't as "watered down" with expansion back then - you've also got to take into consideration that the smaller the league, your mathematical chances for winning a title increase. Fewer teams, fewer playoff series - etc. Likewise, you didn't have to worry back then about a young Sam Jones, a few years into the Celts 8-peat, being enticed to greener pastures in Charlotte or Miami via free agency or whatever. There's just not as much competition in the labor pool so it's easier to stockpile what you need.

    It still wasn't easy, of course - but apples/oranges, etc.

    LOL - I'm glad they included Joe Fulks on the ballot - I'm sure there's been a groundswell of BAA revisionist sentiment from the late 40's and early 50's to give him a REAL shot this time around.

    I can just see Kenny and Charles going to the mat for Joe Fulks, and hey don't count out "Easy" Ed MaCauley and Vern Mikkelsen either. Have you heard any of the archived radio broadcast of the RCA/Victor Two-Point Set Shot Shootout Presented by Ovaltine from the 1948 BAA-NBL All-star weekend? Classic stuff.......especially when Mikkelsen made that controversial two pointer as the stopwatch was running out after adjusting the laces on his Chuck Taylor "V3RNIN UP THE COURT" shoes.

    No way. Rodman was a great specialist, but not Hall worthy. How many players in the Hall were not leaders on their team? None of the teams Rodman was on looked to him to be a leader. In SA, he was arguably the number 2 guy behind Robinson and he couldn't handle it... he self-destructed. In Chicago, he was very comfortable being the number 3 guy behind Jordan and Pippen. How many people in the Hall would be happy being number 3? Yes, he was a good rebounder and a good defender and he helped his teams win games. Still, if he was placed in the position of leading those teams for a season, it would have been a train wreck.

    No hating on Easy Ed...

    When you are not practicing, remember, someone somewhere is practicing, and when you meet him he will win.

    --Ed Macauley

    "Easy" Ed Macauley glided down the lanes of the NBA for easy layups and precise hook shots, frustrating many of the game's greatest big men. A two-time All-America at St. Louis University, Macauley earned MVP honors in the 1948 NIT and in 1949 was named the Associated Press Player of the Year. In 1949, "Easy" Ed started his 10-year NBA career with the St. Louis Bombers. The Bombers disbanded and Ed was selected by the Boston Celtics in the 1950 NBA dispersal draft. With the Celtics, Ed teamed with fellow Hall of Famers Bob Cousy and Bill Sharman, to form a trio regarded as one of the greatest scoring combinations in pro basketball history. In 1956, as a result of a trade that included the draft rights to Bill Russell, Macauley returned home to play for the St. Louis Hawks. Two years later, he teamed with Bob Pettit in leading St. Louis to the 1958 NBA title. A seven-time NBA All-Star, Macauley earned MVP honors in the first NBA All-Star Game in 1951, scoring 20 points and grabbing six rebounds. Macauley later coached St. Louis to a pair of Western Division titles. At age 32, he became the youngest person enshrined into the Hall of Fame.

    * All-NBA First Team (1951, 1952, 1953)
    * All-NBA Second Team (1954)
    * Seven-time NBA All-Star (1951-57)
    * MVP of first All-Star Game (1951) after scoring 20 points
    * NBA championship with St. Louis Hawks (1958)
    * Scored 11,234 points (17.5 ppg) in 641 games
    * Traded by Boston to St. Louis (1956) for Bill Russell
    * Scored a career-high 46 points against George Mikan (March 6, 1953)
    * Retired in 1958 as the NBA's third leading scorer behind George Mikan and Dolph Schayes

    Some players have not been in the league long enough to be counted amongst the 60 best.

    SNash?? Come on hes only been playing like an all star for two years.
    Amare has only had one great season (last season)
    Wade / Lebron ? its only their third season in the league

    I think they are looking for people to include in their 60 greatest players list if the vote was today. Based on their whole career all those youngs may get added in the next century.

    I would add.

    Shaq (He should have been in this list not last time but since he was the next 10 in my opinion) I havent watched some of the oldies play so I couldnt add them.

    Reggie Miller
    Dominique Wilkins (bad omission last time)
    Jason Kidd
    Tim Duncan
    Gary Payton (nine time all star, DPOY)
    Kobe Bryant
    Mourning (dont know if he is on the original list)
    Kevin Garnett
    Allen Iverson
    Ray Allen

    working within the official list:

    " The 20 finalists include active players Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash and Gary Payton, and retired players Walt Bellamy, Adrian Dantley, Joe Dumars, Alex English, Connie Hawkins, Dennis Johnson, Bernard King, Bob Lanier, Bob McAdoo, Reggie Miller, Dennis Rodman and Dominique Wilkins. "

    so you just have to cut half of them...easier said then done, but here it goes:

    Tim - 2 rings, dominates the double doubles.
    kobe - 3 rings, 81 points.
    AI - about 30ppg for a career.
    KG - MVP, one of the most talented and versitile players ever.
    kidd - career #'s for assists and steals are already among the legends.
    payton - see above.
    dumars - 2 rings, awesome player.
    english - among the top in career points.
    reggie - all time leader in 3's and among the top career points.
    wilkins - won't be snubbed twice!

    why are people assuming that old timers like McAdoo and Wilkins can't make the team? What kind of logic says they can't be top 60 because they didn't make top 50? How can Lebron and Wade be considered better all-time basketball players than those guys?

    I missed it when they were talking about the small forwards but who was considered from them? Was T-mac talked about? I dont think he should have made it but definately should be talked about.

    I love Charles, but he's an idiot. To him it's like a fraternity. He just wants to pick his friends and doesn't want to give anyone credit that might really deserve it. He sounded absolutely ridiculous when he said he thought DJ and Dumars were better than Kobe - and I don't like Kobe, but seriously this isn't a country club. :rolleyes:

    You we're correct except...
    5. McAdoo
    7. Reggie
    8. Connie Hawkins

    Magic said it best when he said that it really wasn't fair to some of the older players since most of them didn't get to see them play very much. As well as myself - it wasn't till the late '70's that I started watching and really the early 80's till I started paying more attention. I didn't even know who Sam Jones and a few of the other top 50 even were. Personally, I would have liked to see Dantley and B King make it, but what do I know - I never even saw Hawkins play.

    What do you guys really expect? Barkley and every other "old-timer" will be partial to those whom they played with/against rather than today's players. About the only one who came across as fair and impartial was Kenny, the rest were homers for their own eras.

    From the relatively younger stars in the league today, only Kobe/Iverson/Duncan/KG get my vote, the rest will get their chance when the list is expanded to 70 a decade or more from now (T-Mac/Lebron/Wade/D.Howard/others).

    Connie Hawkins averaged 16.5 points and eight boards in seven years for mediocre teams in the NBA.

    His best years were in the ABL, AAU circuits, and that Pittsburgh team that won the first ABA championship.

    Every hoop fan on Earth should read "Foul," but he is not one of the top 60 players in NBA history.

    If we're including other leagues, then Davies, Gilmore, Issel, McGinnis and Roger Brown should be shoo-ins.
