The Detroit Pistons traded forward Darko Milicic and point guard Carlos Arroyo to the Orlando Magic for Kelvin Cato and a 2007 first round pick, ESPN.com has learned Wednesday. The little-used Milicic appeared in 25 games for the Pistons last season, averaging 1.5 points per game in 5.6 minutes
The rumor on Cato is that he'll likely be cut. It's possible he is flipped to another team. He'll never play for Detroit though. Darko could develop into a great compliment for Howard. Darko is a very willing passer, has a nice jumper, and is a very good shotblocker. Howard makes up for his so-so rebounding and lack of physical game. If Darko develops, obviously. Not sure Detroit really got enough in the deal.
even if darko is a bust it's a good deal for orlando. arroyo and no.1 pick for cato. detroit obviously shedding cap for big ben.
It is interesting to note that Orlando seems to be hoarding international talent around Dwight Howard.
nice trade for both. cato won't be cut. he will backup at center, while not getting many minutes since ben plays 30+ and mcdyess comes in to move sheed to center when ben comes out. darko is a risk worth taking for the magic. if i were them, i would start him right away and let him and howard develop together. arroyo is a nice backup to nelson. steve can get traded to NY for penny and david lee who is an excellent rebounder at the 4/3. howard, darko, and lee would make a nice young frontcourt to can rebound and shoot. the capspace they save on steve may bring them a nice FA this summer.
Detroit already had Dale Davis to be their 4th big man. Cato will never see the court even if he's kept for some reason.
Yea, and just they way they want it. From what I've read, they didn't like Arroyo and were trying for a while to get rid of him.
If Cato is cut, I think he would make an excellent center in HOU behind Yao. His last couple of years here, the only problem I ever had with him was his contract. He was a solid role player.
He also had maybe his best year under Van Gundy. Seemed to really respond to the coaching and system.
Why would they keep him? He's injured and even when he's healthy he'd never get in an actual game with their roster. They'll keep him until the trade deadline and then let him go if they don't move him.
