I just discovered that these exist yesterday. Anyone have one, and can you give some input on the pros/cons of your particular deck? There's one at Best Buy. Here's a review on some guy's blog. According to this article on USA today, several companies will be putting out car stereos with USB this year. I also found two at Crutchfield that look decent, although both are around $200. Edit: Even Wal-Mart has a stereo with USB, and it's the cheapest so far at $88. link I'm not really looking for a knock-your-socks of stereo; I walk to work and drive about 200 miles a month unless I take a road trip somewhere. I just need something that sounds decent. What I need out of the USB port is the ability to attach an external hard drive so I can use my 30,000 mp3s on the road. The idea is that I will sync the drive occaisionaly with my mp3 folder on my server when I get new mp3s. From what I've read about the Best Buy deck, it has problems with anything over 1gb (although someone used 2gb without problem). It scans the entire drive ahead of time, and the more songs, the longer it takes. I'm thinking of making this my next big purchase, so any feedback would be appreciated!
I really don't understand why some markets are so slow to catch up. Clock radios are slowing moving to include CD's, but almost none of them support MP3 files. Car stereos also have been really slow to adapt to newer technologies. Boom boxes, too. How many boom boxes on the market play just "music CD's"? Every friggin' boom box on the market should play CD/DVD/Memory stick containing a ton of MP3's.
Yeah, but what flash drive holds 30,000 songs? In Xerobull's post he said "the ability to attach an external hard drive so I can use my 30,000 mp3s on the road"
That's right, an inverter. I plan on using an external enclosure with an 80 gb hard drive. Right now I have 57gb of MP3s, so I need the space. I would prefer to go flash, because it elminates the moving parts, but the biggest flash drives I've seen are 8gb.
then apparently you haven't run into me yet.... i jam my ghetto blaster on my shoulder everyday to work.
