I know everyone on here noticed it. what did you think. personally I thought it was so obvious that nike is jumping on the 81 point game as a chance to finally repair his image. its so funny though that his campaign has gone from the golden child, to the guy you love or hate. I couldn't help but think, "no kobe, everyone hates you because they think you got away with rape".

i like kobe and was indifferent about his rape case.
if only every player had kobes work ethic...
if i was being paid millions to play a "game". my work ethic would be like kobes. i would continue to improve myself until im the best, bar none.

i didnt really follow the case, cuz i didnt really care about it. was it indisputable evidence he raped her? how do we know it wasn't consensual and she's just a gold digger?

I actually don't hate kobe as much as I used to. as far as the rape case is concerned, it never went to trial so its all media speculation on what evidence was there. I was just thinking from the perspective of people who really don't like him.

one line did catch me, he says people hate his swagger. one of the reason I used to really hate kobe is because I thought he wanted to be like jordan too much down to the way he walks and talks and even his body language on the court.

Ditto. Had he tried to make his own mark on the NBA from the get-go, I would've liked him more. He was trying too hard to emulate Jordan in all facets that I just couldn't handle him.

Not to mention, I don't like rats.

Hahaha. I do think it's funny. Especially since the last commercial I remember him in was playing basketball with some kids so they can get some McDonalds. But I do agree that Kobe is a love him or hate him kinda guy. Although I hate him not b/c of the reasons he listed, nor b/c of the rape case. I hate him b/c he's not good team mate. He only cares about himself, and he's just not a good person in general.

The evidence strongly suggested. Arguable enough that his case wouldn't hold water in court (hence the settlement).

In regard to the rape case, I'll say this once and I'll say this again, "This ain't da first time he raped/cheated on his wife. It's just the first time he got caught."

Kobe is definitely a "love him or hate him" type of guy, I am yet to come across a fan who doesn't have a strong opinion about him either way.

I think it's important though to distinguish the fact that most people hate Kobe 'the person' rather than Kobe 'the player', although sometimes it overlaps.

Kobe the player is a joy to watch, Kobe the person is the one thing that's always kept me from rooting for the guy to do well much like I root for most unique NBA stars. (I am not a hater and never been one, so I might be a little different in that respect than most 'die hard' fans in the league)

As for the commercial, nothing great about it, I liked the one with Adidas back in the day that had him working out and boxing and stuff like that a lot more than this one.

The best commercial is Iverson's, I just love Reebok's overall theme in those commercials, "I am what I am"...I also love the one he has where he's just sitting there with his headphones on before a game, no shirt on, all his tatoos on display, and those highlights of every major injury in his body, with the guys calling one of his games saying "He's a true warrior"...then his eyes open and he says, "Time to go to work". That's a really good commercial, it advertises AI for who he is, and speaks of something the fans love about him: his unmatched toughness.

You don't think Nike wanted people to talk about this commercial. the commercial understands people love him or hate him. so that's the topic of the thread.

the funny thing is he was always a polarizing sports figure.

not as much as I used to. I definitely have more respect for his game than I used to.

does anybody love this dude outside of LA?

    doubt it.

I don't think people hate him because of the rape thing. Okay, maybe that's the case for non-basketball people. But for basketball fans, especially diehard ones, they already formed their opinion about Kobe the person before the rape case. That's why you see the polarization among fans during the height of the case.

I think most fans who hate him do because he comes across as a selfish guy. Most fans like hard working competitive players, which Kobe is, to the extreme. But most fans also dislike arrogant players who don't care about teammates and fans, which Kobe is too, also to the extreme. So love him or hate him, depending on which of these two things you value more.

how many superstars can we say that about?
The line starts at Charles Barkley, Malone, etc

So cannot use that as a true knock on him

If Kobe gets the lakers out of the 1st round . . I will be impressed

Many said he had no chance to even get this pathetic lakers team into the playoffs.

I always wondered why Nike would give a young LeBron a $90 mil deal before he played one game in the NBA, he must have had screen tests that were off the charts when they signed him. You can tell the difference in in the Lebron vs. Kobe commercials, the Lebron commercials are so much funnier and likeable. Kobe may be the best player in the game but he is a lousy actor.

The commercial is ok. It is nothing special but I give him props for not using all those special effects (ala the T-Mac commercials).

I never liked Kobe b/c of his arrogance and smug nature. It is great to be confident but to be smug and act like you are better than everyone is weak. I was starting to give Kobe props for the player he was becoming and for amazing skills he had and the person he "seemed" to be turning into (right before the whole rape thing happened).

He did an interview about how he loved his wife so much and was crying during the interview b/c his parents didn't come to his wedding and did not talk to him since he married a latina girl. I gained mad respect for him b/c he seemed to genuinely to love this girl and was willing to stand up for the right thing (racial & cultural equality). No sooner than I gain respect for the fool, he goes out and "allegedly" rapes a girl and cheats on his wife that he so-called loved so much that he was willing to ruin his relationship with his parents for. Now that is really showing her how much you love her. And then, he goes on to try to get this "street cred" persona (Ex: getting a tatoo) after bashing other NBA players for doing this (namely A.I.).

He is a great player, no one can argue that, but he is a phony!

One of the biggest reasons I hate Kobe is because of all the media play he gets from being in LA. I hate Los Angeles.
