Just a poll to see something I'm curious about. I know a lot of folks here seem to have enough "church-speak" about them to have had some experience with it. I also know some seem to be bitter towards the topic... But I'd strictly like to see who has been, or is, a church "staff" member. I've noticed a few that have mentioned youth work.... something I did for about 8 years. Now my wife does it part time. I'm the pastor now. If you've left a position, I'd be curious as to why... common reasons are "burnout" and/or a "lack of appreciation" -even "grew tired of the hypocrisy." Anywho... just curious. This could possibly help anyone in leadership hear out some things t maybe prevent leadership turnover... maybe it could just help me. btw-it's public and multiple choice... public for honesty's sake.
i volunteer through churches and various ministries. never been on staff anywhere. someone want to make me an offer?
I've helped Christian church groups with volunteer projects but not being Christian I wouldn't consider myself a member of a ministry.
That would fall into option 4 to me. I played drums for 3 years before ever being in any other position, voluntarilty... So "I'm a drummer too, k?"
All volunteer but I've worked with the youth, children, prison ministry, maintenance, AD, deacon, but right now I'm not doing anything. The reasons for leaving: Youth: I really wasn't built for that. Too many issues that I don't have the patience for. Children: Still do from time to time, but I'm on a break right now. Prison ministry: Since having kids, I don't have the time to properly invest in this. But this was probably more my speed and most rewarding. Maintenance: Moved. AD: Moved. Deacon: Once my commitment was up, I didn't reup because I was growing bitter about doing all the work as the rest weren't doing their share at all. Though it was my problem because I was focusing on myself and what I was missing or sacrificing by doing the duty. I'm sure God was not too pleased with me but I just couldn't overcome it. I came to the conclusion that if I can't do this even somewhat cheerfully, I need to get out.
Left a position of Assistant Pastor at a church of about 1000 attendance. To be a pastor of a church of about 75 attendance. I would like to know if those Clutchfans Christians who live in the Houston area would have any interest in a lunch or dinner? A get to meet you event.
35 years ago I was an altar boy for about two weeks. I got canned for making faces at the kids coming up for communion. Good times.
