I'll just continue enjoying my KK up here in Austin.... Not that I eat KK when I'm in Houston anyway. Southern Maid donuts ROCK!
I like KK but there are some alternative's in my town that rule too such as Daylight Donuts and Southern Maid.
I never have liked doughnuts, but after eating a Krispy Kreme that changed.. they are the only doughnuts I will eat... IMO the best doughnuts on the face of the earth.. I'm still amazed that people can eat doughnuts for breakfast if anything these should be considered a dessert, but keep in mind I'm just crazy
I think the downfall of KK in Houston began when they started putting them in every freaking grocery store and gas station. The LAST thing I want is a glazed doughnut that's been sitting in a smoky gas station. When they started doing this, they stopped being something special...and it became difficult to get fresh doughnut at their actual stores. The hot light was almost never on....in fact, I haven't seen one on for nearly a year. I've gone in a few times and saw that they were making fresh ones...but they told me they could not sell those to me because they were for the ones going to the grocery stores. WTF is that? You can't spare a box because they have to get all yucky and thrown away later? Whatever. I even wrote in to KK complaining about this problem. They sent me dozens of coupons for free boxes. What's the point of that? I can't find fresh ones, so why the @#$% would I want the old ones for free? I mailed those coupons back to them, explaining this problem. So, I haven't had a KK doughnut in Houston in more than a year. The only place -- in the world -- that I found fresh ones were in the UK in December. I had to go to freaking London to get a fresh doughnut? That's just wrong....
u sure love them donuts. i wouldnt go that far for a fresh donut. just pop it in the microwave for 15 seconds and its almost as good as fresh.
this isn't why they're leaving. KK was still performing well here. this deals with issues regarding corporate and their franchisees.
i don't eat doughnuts very ofter, but when i was a kid (in houston) i loved shipley's. in austin i'd go with ken's or mrs. johnson's. kk has nice glazed doughnuts, but shipley's are better IMO.
No big deal here. I love Shipley's and hate Krispy Kreme. Soft, most and (just enough) glazed donut > small and hard (cause of all the glaze) donut
Good riddance! Give me SHIPLEY'S any day over KK. The only way I could tolerate a KK donut is if it was really fresh and warm. Shipleys I can eat after it's been sitting out for a day and it's still better than a KK doughnut!!!!
Personally I prefer Shipleys, but KK is not too bad. Are there even any Dunkin Donuts in the Houston area?
