Some people hate him and some love him. I want to post a poll and see the consensus. Vote and explain!

I do not hate him. I am indifferent to him. THe injuries this year are not his fault. He gets a free pass for this season. He does not adapt to his players or play to his players strengths well. He is a great defensive coach - which I appreciate.

I will never blindly support him as some others have. I do think he does a good job.

I will never hate Rudy as some do here. Rudy got us two rings - and that is hard against 3 - 55 to 60 win playoff teams in San Antonio, Phoenix, and Utah.

i don't hate 'ole man grumpy.

hate is way too strong a sentiment for a hard working coach that lacks imagination.

I absolutely abhor JVG. He is the cause of all of our struggles. He ruined McGrady's back last year when he jumped on it in practice for a piggyback ride and he similarly injured Yao's toe when stomped on it to demonstrate the necessity of toughness. He is also the reason our role players have been nothing short of worthless this season and most importantly he is the reason why Chuck Hayes' growth was stunted causing him to stop growing at 6'5.

My feelings on JVG are pretty well summed up rather eloquently already by many of you (see: Game threads 1-49, and Fire Gundy!!!!111#* parts 1&2).

    i don't like jvg...somewhere in between hating and disliking...detesting?

I don't know, reading this quote makes me realize how much he likes to make himself look like a martyr...

"We should've been frothing at the mouth, like pit bulls. I so much want to have a team that really, really, really wants to play every day, every night."

I hate the fact that everyone around the league makes him out to be some kind of elite coaching genius. So what if he trained behind Riley? Van Gundy has no rings. If I was a player and had a ring and Van Gundy was whining to me about something I didnt agree with I would probably say, "hey I have a ring, shut up". Seriously now though he did take a hot Knicks team from the 8th seed in a WEAK eastern conference to the finals. But he only managed 1 win. His reputation is all New York/Pat Riley HYPE. Worst of all to me as a fan is his style of play. Its BORING. His method is prone to long scoring draughts. Basketball offense is free flowing almost artistic not pre determined football strategy. Jeff Van Gundy would be the greatest college basketball coach of all time. That defensive intesinity would confuse young players and he could sub out all game for fresh players with a minimal talent dropoff. In the nba that doesnt work against above average teams. He hasnt done a damn thing to gain my respect as a fan. Injuries or not theres no excuse for this record, for this mess, this boring ineffective basketball philosophy, and his lack of ability to adapt to players rather than force his persona upon a team not idealy suited for it. And why the hell is he always so pessimistic? Thats gotta kill the moral.

I was a JVG backer upon his signing, but his stubborness has worn out the welcome. I'm now indifferent to him. I really don't care if he's gone tomorrow as long as there's a suitable replacement, and I thought Les taking Gundy over PJax was not a smart move.

Are you high? Basketball is ALL about chemistry, strategy and execution...
No excuse for this record? Good lord, just look at the record when Yao and T-mac are out and that tells it all. We don't have outside shooters hitting shots and haven't had our full starting lineup from day one. Look I want to win as bad as anyone but lets not get all emotionally charged about a iinjury riddled season that caused us to be in this situation.

hi my american friends ! I am a chinese roxfan living in beijing. :)

may I just kindly translate some comments from local china bbs on jvg after rox vs lakers?

It's difficult to speak english, i just try to get my words correct.
    quote:
    他才是真正的魔术师,必胜的比赛都能让他变输了。
he is really a magic gundy who turned a must-win game lost.
    禅师把范甘迪打回原型了
phil jackson just showed us a real jvg!
    范秃子不会进攻就说是防守大师,丢人!
Because Bald Van dosent know how to offense, he becomes a defense master. shame!
    美国不是民主国家吗,他怎么还能在火箭混?
isn‘t US a demorcratic country, how can he goof-off in rox for so long(we believe that American people want him go too)?
    姚明应该去湖人,这样才能拿总冠军。
yao should go to laker, there he can win championship.
    咋能输给湖人呢?不可能的任务都可能了。
how come lost lakers? rox has two all stars.lakers now is just garbage, mission impossible(cause they think its impossible to lose the game) became possible.

    ..............................

if somebody stays in houston nextdoor to jvg's, please tell him these voice from china. no offense( like him like present rox)! :D :D :D

So every player who has happened to be on a championship team knows more about basketball than every coach who has never won a championship?

Injuries are good excuse. But "don't have outside shooters" is not an excuse. This roster is shaped by JVG. That's why I gave him free pass for 2 years. Now I am fed up with the "not my type of players" excuse. And I think a lot of people started to jump on the "fire gundy" bandwagon last night when he could have put Barry and Anderson on the floor. Yet he chose to play Ryan Bowen when the offense already looked so pathetic, and whined about "no spark" on the team.

People used to complain that Rudy loved undersized shooting guards. At least he didn't love players who only contribute by running around the court like a chicken with it's head cut off.

There are times to use Bowen, but when you need offense he shouldn't be on the floor. Ever.

I still love him. There's been too many injuries this season to accurately judge him.

This is by far one of the things I hate worse
His inability to adjust to what he has

I'm no big PJax fan . . but he is working with what he has
I've always critisized him for only coaching ELITE teams
    but
he is really WORKING with this laker team

JVG continues to try and push Square pegs in Round Holes
then blame the pegs for not fitting

    Rocket River
I think we will go far this year because YAO and T-Mac will take us
in SPITE of JVG . . not because of him

Right after that I said "seriously though" clearly making it the light hearted joke side of an otherwise agree post.
