You have to realize that with the Jordan adulation, he's going to be ranked #1 on any list he's a part of, whether he deserves to be or not...

jrich probably completed the most difficult dunk in contest history with that bounce off the floor, go between the legs backward dunk. it seems like he even did something else, but it was amazing. but as mentioned earlier, it still didn't look as good as vince. it was so quick, and he had to cram so much into the time he was in the air that you could barely see it. it just wasn't as pretty.

of course another reason it doesn't get as much pub is that vince's dunk contest was basically a coronation. he had basically been having a nightly highlight on sportscenter and people wanted to see what he could do. his first 3 dunks were awesome and when he did the 3rd, you've got the crowd as crazy as i've ever see at a dunk contest and kenny screaming "it's ovah, it's ovah" in the background. it was just a moment.

plus his in game dunks top anything richardson's ever done.

and part of the reason i cannot put Dr. J above vince is his dunk contest dunks just weren't comparable to today. i know all the extra training and stuff makes that an unfair comparison, but it's true. his best dunk was the ft line dunk, which has been done several times since (even by a white guy). the rest of the ABA dunks, if you've seen the cheap seats episode about it, weren't all that great, so Dr. J's just stood out more. that "he rocks the baby to sleep" dunk is great as is one of his slams on walton.

Dr. J gets mad props for doing so many dunks (in-game and contest) before others and combining finesse and power like few since. I grew up watching Clyde and the Phi Slammas, Nique and MJ and their dunks could crush a team(or player's) morale and definitely psyche up and shock the crowd (home or away :D ). Shawn Kemp took it to another level with his creativity and total disregard for human life (at least until he showed total disregard for playing shape).

But, the G.O.A.T is Vince Carter--Period. There's not ONE dunk those guys could do that he couldn't do--BETTER. There are dunks that he's done that those guys couldn't hope to do. If back in the day, you were tellin' yo boys, "I just saw (Doc, Nique, Mike, Reignman) dunk over this 7-footer!!" and a kid said, "You mean he jumped all the way OVER him?!" What would you have said (after everybody stopped laughing)?? No, silly that's impossible, NOBODY can do that.

    Until Vince did it.

Yeah, he can also to a 360, between the legs dunk pretty easily too. He's one of the craziest dunkers I've ever seen as far as leaping distance goes. He regularly does a 2 handed, double pump dunk from the free throw line as well.

Actually got to meet him a few times in between classes. He played his first year and a quarter of college ball down here at UF, but he didn't have the right attitude and transferred. Unfortunately, I think he may end up being another kid with a ton of unrealized potential.

I agree with Jordan being 1. He filled stadiums back in the day, it was a sellout wherever he went. Carter doesn't fill the seats like Mike.

He's actually having a pretty decent senior year at Cincinncati though ... projected late first round, early second round. This guy just needs to make it so he can be in the dunk contest ...

That probably has more to do with him being the best player of all time, not the best dunker.

Don't worry, Stro can still be like Kemp because Kemp lost his work ethic, lost his handles, and lost his passion.

JRich off the backboard between the legs getting no love?

James White is sick, but all he'll be in the NBA is a high-flying act with no shot...

    As for ESPN's list...who cares, it's ESPN...

And that Jordan video shows a lot of him pushing off with his off-arm...

well I wouldn't put jordan ahead because he was more popular, but I don't think Carter is definitely ahead of him on in-game dunks. dunk contest, no doubt its carter. jordan had some pretty nasty in-gamers though. so did nique.

j-rich doesn't make the cut because he doesn't have many in-gamers, however, j-rich's dunk contest victory does get over looked, mainly because he immediately followed carter. does everyone remember when richardson threw that ball off boozer's head in the rookie/sophomore game? everyone thought j-rich was the jerk back then, until boozer pulled that deal on cleveland.
