I cut mine myself with some WAHL cliippers every 10 days. I started in college to save money, and it looked pretty bad. Now, 6 years later, it looks pretty good. And if you screw up, it grows back anyway.
Is he the owner? I've heard from a couple people that you're not suppose to tip if the owner serves you. Like if the owner waits your table or if he cuts your hair.
I spend about $30 for a haircut every six weeks or so... and I drive about 30 minutes to get it. Sometimes I feel like a tool, but then I remember that the three ladies who own the shop are clients of mine. I'm happy with a $12 haircut from the shop 1/2 mile away which is what I used to get before this client relationship was formed.
Wish there was a 10-15 option. Anyway, I voted 10- I go to a local barber shop that charges $10, and if I have cash, I tip, if not, I don't, because the owner cuts my hair. I also get a straight-razor on my neck-beard for free. No shampoo- they don't go for that pansy crap there.
Supercuts b*tches... I do tend to clean up my neck, etc. about once a week...However, by doing this myself, I've had to go back to supercuts on occasion to fix up my mess...
Yup...my wife does mine for free with one of these. In fact....this weekend is time again. And I get a free neck and back massage for free to boot, heh! heh! heh!

I used to pay $9 but their prices went up to $12 and then I tip about $3 or $4, so I guess about $16 total.
well about tipping, the guy's who don't own the shop are renting chairs from the owner so actually I don't know if their making minimum wage or not. as for the owner, I get my hair cut by the owner of the shop, he's a young guy. I started with him right before he left his first shop, then he moved into this salon for women. then the owner of that shop died, he was gay and died of AIDS, pretty sad, and he took over. I had been tipping him since he started and now I'm used to it. but he is the owner and really I see no point.
I am one of those guys that pay 20. The lady who does my hair used to charge 12. I would leave 15 and be out the door. She washes your hair before and after the cut. Plus she is a pretty lady who actually talks to her clients. She later raised her price to 15 but kept charging me 12 since I have gone to her for so long. Just recently she started charging 20. I debated back and forth if I should keep going to her because of the cost increase. I cheated on her once with Great Clips. They charge 12 bucks. I went in with a 5 dollar coupon. When I showed up they had a sale for 2.99. Never again will I get a 2.99 haircut. I looked like an idiot. I was so scared I asked her to only use scissors and to trim the hair. Man I felt like a fool going to work the next day. So now rather than going every 3-4 weeks, I try to go 5-6 weeks. My wife uses the clippers to cleanup my neck and she also trims the hair around my ears so I can make it to the last two weeks.
Seventeen dollars for a 15 minute haircut is plenty. Thanks for the advice but I can handle my barbershop etiquette.
