Taken from NBA.com: O'Neal's Flagrant Foul Reclassified NEW YORK, June 11 — The flagrant foul that was charged to Los Angeles Lakers' center Shaquille O'Neal in Game 2 of the NBA Finals has been downgraded to a personal foul, it was announced today by Senior Vice President, Basketball Operations, Stu Jackson. After a review of the videotape of the game it was determined that the foul, which occurred with 6:40 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 111-104 victory over the Indiana Pacers, was not a flagrant foul. Under NBA policy, the league office has the right, following review, to reclassify a flagrant foul, or to classify as flagrant a foul not called flagrant during a game. Flagrant foul status begins anew in the Playoffs. A player is suspended for a game on his fourth flagrant foul point (one point is charged for a flagrant foul and two points for a flagrant foul 2). If a player's playoff total exceeds three points, he receives an automatic suspension after the game in which his point total exceeds three points. ----------------------- So basically, the league is doing its best to ensure that Shaq doesn't end up missing any games due to suspension. It makes me sick to my stomach how hard the NBA is working to make sure LA wins. If Fox or someone committed that foul, you can be damn sure it wouldn't have been "reclassified". ------------------
Man your so rightfadeaway it's scary the NBA is trying so hard to give LA the title but if the NBA does give it to LA then it will be tainted like the Bulls titles and they will not be World Champs but World Chumps. ------------------
I hate the Fakers as much as anyone, but I can't argue a whole lot with changing it. It wasn't THAT hard of a foul. Best is just so small the slightest impact makes him move like that. The Steve Smith play at the end of game 7, which wasn't even called a foul, was closer to a flagrant than the Best play. I'm not saying that it was an obvious flagrant- I'm just saying how much the Best play wasn't. Now remember, the NBA did reverse one of Steve's flagrant's this year, so let's not get hypocritical here. It wasn't deserving of a flagrant, so let's move on. Is there a conspiracy? Who knows. But that isn't evidence if there is. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
Holy crap! You don't sound unnecessarily biased against the Lakers!? Body snatcher! What have you done with The Cat!!! ------------------
LP- I may hate the Fakers but there are certain things that you can't dispute. That is one of them. It wasn't a flagrant. Nothing much you can say to that. Take a look at the replay and that tells the whole story. And for the record, I wouldn't be that biased against the Fakers if not for the cheating and media attention they got. So when they don't cheat and are actually the victims here, I will be a completely unbiased guy. It's just 99 times out of a 100 it's calls like that that go in their favor, and that is why I can't stand them. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
The Cat, I'm just teasing, of course. I'll be waiting for your next "Fakers suck" posts to resume at their regularly scheduled times ------------------
I totally agree with this change. Shaq needs to stay in and have the NBA/NBC conspiracy work. If they called it the right way, it would of caused big time damage to Shaqs ego and would of made him not try as hard to follow the script this time around. The NBA/NBC directors of these games know what they are doing. You guys have to have a little more faith in them. They have great writers on their staff and they are professionals. Are we? ------------------
