With the Dream side lined a minimum of 6 or more weeks, and Massenburg also out with a groin pull, the Roks need to find a capable center to back up Cato. Any ideas on possible moves you think Rudy and CD are considering ? WHo is available and worthy ? ------------------
6 weeks? Last I heard it was 2-3 games. Was something released about this and I just can't find it? Snare
CD said on 610 that Dream is out at least 4wks. JSC,I'm not sure who we should try to trade for, perhaps they make the move now to get the 4(Ratliff)and use him as a backup at the 5 also.
Did San Antonio trade David Robinson when he was injured? NO!!! What was the end result? Tim Duncan!!!
They're not sure, actually. They say an injury like Hakeem's usually takes 6 weeks to heal. He was sent home for the remainder of the road trip because it was evident he wouldn't be able to play anyway. However, now that they know more, he is expected to be out for an extended amount of time. He's having some tests done, so we'll know by tomorrow for sure, I guess. ------------------ Francis+Charles+Dream-Pippen= Rockets 2000 NBA Champions
Smokey, nobody talked about trading Dream. The meer thought would be blasphemous.Cheer up,this will benefit us later in the season.
Hakeem's out 4 - 6 weeks. We could try to get Ervin Johnson. I don't know what we'd have to give up for him, but with him and Cato backing up Chuck and Hakeem later on, we'd have no problem with defense off the bench in the frontcourt. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
Man, I would really like to get Theo Ratliff. An acquisition like that could pay off huge for the future as well as the present (for those of you hanging on at the time ). Popeye, are the 76ers actively trying to ship Ratliff. Would it take Mobley to get him, or would a Rogers-Massenberg-Drew package be enough?
There's no doubt in my mind the Dream will take a minimum of 5 and probably 6 weeks to fully recover and get back into playing shape. Don't forget, he can't even think about working out until totally cleared. A groin pull of this severity, ( and it is sever reports Hakeem on the radio ), takes an older player longer. I don't want the Rockets throwing in the towel, no way. I say get the best 5 or 4 who can play the position, and make a deal now. Don't forget, Cato is also injured, and the last thing we need is him going down when he has a golden opportunity to take center stage and show us his the man for the next 6 years.
I don't believe players of the likes of Ratliff or E.Johnson are expendable by their respective teams or I think that we may have to give up too much for players who will "fill-in" for a temporary period of time. The guy I'm gonna mention may seem like chump change compared to what you guys mentioned, but he would be a worthy body that could add some defensive presence. Yogi Stewart of the Raptors is hidden under the thick backcourt of Toronto, and while he has been unimpressive for the Dinos, he is a proven shot blocker who fits the running game. Also, it would not take much at all to get him. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not willing to give away Cat for a good big man like Ratliff, simply because our frontcourt is not in ruins. "Yogi" Stewart? Is that the same as Michael Stewart, who signed a 6 year, $24 million contract extension with the Raptors, earlier this summer? If it is...you can scratch him off the list.

Ok guys let's remember one thing. You never make a trade unless it makes sense in the long run. If you are going to trade a couple of guys on your roster for some stiff to cover for Hakeem for the next month then you're much better off combing through the CBA for free. That being said, there are a couple of names that have been thrown out that our intriguing. Theo Ratliff- Personally, I do not see this happening at this point in the season. The 76ers are going through their own injury problems and Ratliff is a major piece of their future. If we do get it will be for a king's ransom. Ervin Johnson- see stiff comment Michael Stewert- why? ------------------ Rockets When? Rockets When?
Okay, I admitt I overlooked Stewart's inflated salary, but that shouldn't diminish his game. Of course there's no way any team will take him on because of his salary (something I completely forgot about). He's a decent center who still show's potential. But not 26 million dollars worth of potential. Azim da Dream
Guys, come on. If a trade is made, it will be a minor one. I wouldn't be surprised if we signed someone from the CBA or something. We lost Dream for a few weeks, not for the rest of the season. We still have Cato, who will probably take most of the minutes. His injury is a minor one, he shouldn't be out long at all. We also have Kenny Thomas. He can take 10 minutes, easy. T-Mass would be one of the guys to trade, and he's available. What can we get for him in terms of big men? Probably a guy who can fill in for 10-15 a game. He just needs to be injury free. Although I would love to wait and package him for something else, but that's another story. Cabbage sugguested it in one of his posts earlier, and I think we should look into such a package. But that would not be because Dream got injured. I think we are blowing this issue out of proportion. Theo Ratliff? He just signed a huge contract. Same with Stewart. If you are thinking for a replacement for Dream as suggested in the Chronicle, think small, guys. ------------------ Francis+Charles+Dream-Pippen= Rockets 2000 NBA Champions [This message has been edited by Ace (edited November 29, 1999).]
I'll get harrassed for mentioning him, but Jim McIlvaine can play some D. Honestly, I don't what happened with that fat contract he signed with Seattle, but if that contract has expired, he is a big body that could be useful. Or what about Seikaly? What about picking up Darrel Dawkins, I hear he is in the CBA. Personally, I think you should give the young guys a chance. I am hoping for a repeat of 93-94 where Hakeem got hurt and the Rocks Rolled to 16 straight wins. Hakeem realized that he was hampering the team and came back and blended in, and the rest is history.
