Um... he's right, stop overreacting. If you were a Clippers fan you would feel unjust that Elton Brand isn't getting the votes even though he's an MVP candidate.
Well, it's about the "best" players and not the best teams. Elton Brand is not better than McGrady or Garnett. Yao is by FAR the best center in the Western Conf. Sounds about right to me that they're selected to the ASG, especially given it's in H-Town, the home of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. Haters will simply have to get over it..
Well, I honestly don't think either of them deserve to start the all-star game anyway. It's always bothered me when injured players get voted into the all-star game by ignorant fans, and that's exactly what has happened here. I love T-Mac and Yao and I definitely think they should be the all-star starters at their respective positions when healthy, but they haven't been healthy this season. Not to mention the fact our record is terrible.
It's an all-STAR game, not an all-best player. It's just a popularity contest and entertainment, not the Olympics.
If the fans want them in then that's it, hell Chris Bosh should be starting over Shaq if it was about how well a certain player has played over the first half of the season. Ben Wallace too. But somehow Yao cops it every season even when the Rox do well. The best way to deal with the ASG is this, realise its a game for the fans, voted by the fans, created for the fans. Do not use allstar selection as a way to measure a players greatness--they will/should get their love when the All-NBA teams are announced.
of course yao and mcgrady are allstar players.. but i dont think they should be on the team this year bc of the injuries and lack of winning.. but it is in houston so why not
It's not only because it's in Houston, they're both immensely popular players in this league and fans want to see them darn it! Seriously though, forget all that crap and answer this: Would you rather have Nash, Kobe, and McGrady running wild in the backcourt with Yao and Timmy up front, or would you rather have Camby and Brand in there? Pretty damn easy, I would guess.
I don't think JVG should be fired, but I think Les should strangle him for about 45 seconds. I could be with JVG most of the way here, but the all-star team is not about production of any kind. It is about popularity. I'll never be cool with that, but that's just the way it is. But jeez, the game's in frikkin' Houston and the TC will be on huge display and Les has a lot of money invested (both his and ours) that can be recouped by throwing a good all-star party. As much as JVG irritates me I wonder how much Les realizes that he grates on the casual Rox fan. And how JVG's style is a marketing nightmare here. From a bb standpoint, JVG is solid and deserves another year. But from an entertainment view Les needs to stuff a sweaty sock down JVG's throat. I'd like to ask JVG who he thinks should start the AS game. Then I'd like Les to take that sweaty sock...
You know what? JVG said the same thing a few years ago during a Lakers game when he was a commentator for TNT. At the time the Lakers were under 500 and JVG said Shaq and Kobe shouldn't be in the all-star game because their team were losing.
with all the b.s. gundy has been saying..you would think he has 5 rings and .800 record. shut the crap up..you are the worst in the west and be glad 2 of your players will represent this town.
How about finishing that quote from Coach? "Now that would affect our guys which, I'm glad no one took my advice for this year." Nice selective editing though.
Here is JVG's entire quote: "One of the things I really do believe is -- and it would've affected our two guys this year, so it wouldn't have been good -- I don't believe anybody on sub-.500 teams should be in the All-Star Game," Van Gundy said. "It should be all a reward for winning. Now that would affect our guys which, I'm glad no one took my advice for this year." Now bplld, why do you conveniently cut off Van Gundy's quote and misrepresent it as if he is not happy for them? You seriously need to work on your objectivity in regards to your dislike for JVG.
Nice selective editing my **s. No one was doubting JVG's happy for Yao and TMac, but could you give any insight into what JVG really meant? Oh, yeah I get it: "TMac and Yao haven't played well enough when they were healthy. We suck and I'm good with the fact those guys will be in there. And, oh yeah I won't be watching." That's what many here love about JVG, but I am not one of that group.
More like: "TMac and Yao haven't played well enough when they were healthy. But I'm good with the fact those guys will be in there." Yeah, you overexaggerated there. Love it.
Really? Then what does "JVG: Yao and TMac shouldnt be on allstar team" mean - that being the title of the thread?
That's fair. What JVG said was clearly implied, but the thread title was weak. yaomania, forgive me while I step aside and give ktvoss a swipe. To ktvoss: I've seen you dog Yao in particular for a couple of years at least. You would have had several "Classic Moments" if you'd been more eloquent - or just glossing up your idiocy. The business side of our franchise is in trouble. Low attendance, poor product and TC is becoming a black hole in terms of home-court advantage and you've got this coach that insinuating our guys aren't worthy of being in the ASG. Maybe they don't, but you can't even hint at it whether the game's in your building or not: It's bad for business. And bad timing. Again, I do not blame JVG for this season, but I do think he's on his way out and he'll happily take his millions whenever the axe falls. So I'm a supporter still, but this guy will never be a Rocket in my eyes. I'm used to higher standards of loyalty, professionalism and love of Houston. Love that.
