Does anyone have recommendations for a good SBC replacement wrt local phone service?

I recently moved and got a new phone number via SBC. Trouble is that the previous owner of the phone number had DSL and SBC is convinced I too have DSL. Calling SBC up and having them fix my first three bills is enough BS. I seriously don't have time to f*ck with a $20 overcharge every month.

Are any Vonage or other VoIP customers out there? Any problems with VoIP service?

    I got Vonage. Very cheap.

Only problems I've had is with faxing over their system. But otherwise, everything is aok.

I just ordered VoIP from http://www.voicepulse.com/. I did a little research at http://www.whichvoip.com/, reading their service provider reviews. I got my SBC features, plus 200 LD minutes and some other cool features, for $15 per month ($20 per month less than SBC). Most of the VoIP service providers have the same feature price points. The deciding factor for me was that Voice Pulse customer service is located in the United States.

I got the phone modem yesterday. It took the better part of 3 minutes to install it. The instructions said I neede to wait 2 minutes before first use, but that was a lie. It worked 10 seconds after I connected it ;)

I do not see how SBC, the new ATT, can compete against it.
