We rarely win there. Poor crowds. Bad parking. Weak home court "atmosphere". Was this whole thing a mistake? Should we have stayed at Lakewood and let Joel Osteen coach the Rockets instead? Anyone else miss free parking?
Well, it was either Toyota Center or watching the Rockets play their home games in Las Vegas or Oklahoma City.
Apparently someone didn't go to the games regularly at the Compaq Center prior in the last few years. I did, and it sucked. That place was a freaking D-U-M-P...dump dudda dump dudda dump... It had all of the above problems, except parking was free (but still sucked, if you asked me, especially when crowded), and it wasn't in any way comfortable. Seats were bad, lighting was bad, acoustics were bad (though I can't really say they're great in the new place...I hear they are for concerts, but at the games it is just loud, and occasionally inaudible), team was bad, crowds were exceptionally bad. The problem is definitely not the TC, it's the team. From bad coaching to bad playing to bad conditioning (I guess...), the team has had excuse after excuse the last 7+ years for not making it or barely making it to the playoffs.
You can still park for free if you get there a bit early and don't mind walking a couple blocks. I don't drive a Toyota though. I'd rather have it be the Ferrari Center myself.
The mistake was when we changed our jersey to that ugly blue pinstripe jersey with the penis rocket. We were winning with those jerseys. I bet if we brought that back and wore it everyday, and Yao just wore 34 and Tmac wore 22, we'd be winning. Can't find the jerseys? Don't worry! Its way up in the rafters. im sure those guys wouldnt mind if we borrowed them for a season.
I'm not saying anything against it, truth be told I don't live in Houston and have never been to the new arena. All I know is from watching it on TV, it looks mostly empty a lot of the time. I'm just wondering why and if the new arena, in hindsight, was a mistake or even really necessary. I know The Summit or Compag or Lakewood or whatever was in bad shape.
how about we suck? its not the fans. they get paid crazy money to win games. If someone paid me that much, i dont care if 20,000 or 2 people show up. This is Houston, if the Rockets win, people will cheer. Unless you are on the other team, watching us lose is bad. Who cares if we have a big chinese dude or a dinosaur named dude? if we lose, no one will pay $35 for the cheap seats to see it. Player 2005/06 Tracy McGrady $15,694,250 Clarence Weatherspoon $6,353,200 Juwan Howard $5,900,400 Yao Ming $5,594,905 Stromile Swift $5,000,000 David Wesley $5,070,000 Moochie Norris $4,200,000 Vin Baker $3,850,000 Rafer Alston $3,850,000 Bob Sura $3,500,000 Dikembe Mutombo $2,000,000 Charlie Ward $1,870,000 Jon Barry $1,800,000 Derek Anderson $1,670,000 Luther Head $975,600 Ryan Bowen $900,498 Lonny Baxter $719,373 Dion Glover $146,810 Stephen Graham $39,876 Chuck Hayes Josh Davis $15,986 John Lucas $8,861
Its the Toyota Center Curse. we will have the worst home record this year. its a mystery! My theory is that it should of been the coca cola center
I love the TC, when I can afford seats in the lower bowl. The upper bowl stinks though, stacked high up on top of double luxury boxes. I don't know why anyone would want to sit way up there - the view is much better on TV. If the team was just crushing people like the Pistons do, you'd see a lot of bandwagon fans show up. The rich people down low would always show up and the upper deck would fill out too. Then you'd have a crazy atmosphere that would make sitting upstairs worthwhile, despite the #$%* view. But I guess that's a chicken & egg thing. I wish Les would cut the prices on the better tickets for at least few games, but I know that would cheapen the product. And the view won't get any better from upstairs. Even assuming the team does better, you still need (A) some kind of program to encourage downstairs season ticket holders to show up and (B) deep discounts for upstairs to create a better atmosphere.
The only thing I don't like about the Toyota Center is the inside seems kind of rushed. I don't know, walking around outside the seats, it has a warehouse feel. The Pacers arena looks awesome with the old school field house design.
The only thing we have going for us is if in the unlikely event we squeak into the playoffs, we won't have home court "advantage." I bet our opponent would lobby to have the majority of the games played in Houston
I'm curious. I too have never been to a game in the TC, what with me being up here in NY, but I watch a lot of NBA games on TV. Often I can not even hear the TV announcers during Rox games over the INSANELY LOUD music clips and special effects sounds. This is not exclusive to the Rox I know, but seems a bit much more than most. to me For those of you who go to games -Is it that loud at the arena?
they should rename it the Domination Dome and hope the opposing teams get so intimidated beforehand that they just forfeit every game.
What is the biggest mistake is putting those fully stocked bars on both sides of the lower bowl... What is the second biggest mistake is not putting a product on the floor that is more entertaining then the bartenders serving drinks in those bars.... I miss the Summit SIGH...
If the TC wasn't around the Rockets probably wouldn't be in Houston, so no it wasn't a mistake. I've always like the TC since it opened, I always had the same seats since the place opened and love how close the lower level seats are to the action... I was there friday and it got pretty loud even if the place wasn't full
I think the seats in the upper level are fine. I've been to probably 15-20 games in the last few seasons and have only sat in the lower level once. As long as you're in the first 5-10 rows, the upper level suits me just fine.
