Well I finally installed Windows SP2 at home yesterday, even though I heard some bad things about it. I didn't need it until a mp3 player I was trying to hook up wanted it to be recognized.

Now I can connect to the mp3 player but I have no internet connection. Since most people installed SP2 a long time ago I'm guessing others have been through this.

Windows Firewall says it isn't running and I do have Sygate firewall running.

I Googled the problem and downloaded a couple of patches I have yet to try, but I was just wondering if anyone here have dealt with this already and had some ideas etc.

    Thanks in advance....

What MP3 player is causing the issue?

Also when you say you cant connect to the internet, you mean the MP3 player doesn't connect but that Firefox/IE can still connect right?

How do you connect --- cable/dsl/dialup?
Try going to Network Connection. Right click on your connectoid and click on repair.

Can you turn off the Sygate firewall? If not, then make sure to add the IP Address range your router use as permitted IPs.

I don't use your firewall and I am assuming you are working off of a router. The procedure is generally pretty simple...

    1) go to "run" on the start menu, and type in "cmd" and press enter.
    2) in command prompt, type: "ipconfig" and press enter. This gives you your IP address. If your IP address is 192.168.1.<something>, then you want to set the IP address range for your firewall to be 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.254. Basically, the IP range is based on your first 3 numbers.
    3) If you have an active firewall, it's probably an icon on the bottom right corner of your taskbar (next to the clock). Right-click on the firewall and fiddle with the options.
    4) You should be able to find a place to enter a "permitted IP range". Just enter the values I have above and save the settings.

    I hope it works!

Did you try turning off the firewall? See if that is causing the trouble.

Thanks everybody. When I got home yesterday it was working. So this thread was for nothing. I have no idea what happened. Maybe it just took a couple of restarts for it to work again...
