As much as I find it extremely distasteful that in a thread about big corporation trampling common folks, you find the usual D&D suspects coming out to The Man's defense, I must agree with them on this one. Don't waste your time. Remember, this guy is paid to do what he did. It's like complaining to a bar that the bouncer was rough throwing your drunk ass out the night before. It'd probably net the guy a promotion even. Besides, Citibank is not going to be easily scared by a n00b lawyer. They have a billion of those sitting around, and that's not even counting lawyers from their outside law firms.

That doesn't give him the right to be an *******.

Most of those bill collector works for individual bill collecting firms hired by financial firms. So you probably is wasting your time writing to CitiFinancial.

I would send a letter, with details of the conversation and as much info on the caller (name etc) that you could get.

Then I would file a report with the proper agencies.

Then I would sit my VERY PREGNANT wife down and explain that she does not need this aggrevation at this point in time....that in about 2 weeks she will have a whole new bundle of aggrev....errrr....joy to handle.

    :)

Eh? I don't think the idea is to scare them into think I'm going to take them to the cleaners. There are actually state law statutory penalties for these violations. The idea is to make them think that it's not cost effective to defenda claim, and just back off. A beginning associate at a good firm bills at about $250 an hour. Their in-house slaves probably cost them less than that - but it's still not worth their time when I work for myself for free.

not to derail this thread, but you know sometimes that's really annoying....

i'm a pediatrician and a lot of times i'll get a message from the answering service to discuss a sick child. i'll try to call them but they often refuse to answer (because my caller ID will say "private") or they have some recording telling me to "push 1 to automatically unblock your name and number". (which i refuse to do or parents will call my home number directly)
i sometimes will call a few other parents before i call that one back (patched through the answering service)...

i tell everyone that if you're expecting a call from someone don't be picky about the caller ID because sometimes it'll cause you to miss the call.

and yeah as far as the bill collector goes - let it go, if you chase it down you'll probably just get further annoyed/aggravated and that's the last thing you need with a new baby coming. one trick i've learned when i get someone who is being abusive on the phone is to let them know that you will be recording the rest of the call and all of a sudden they get very careful about the words they use... (and I don't even know how to record calls on my phone but i know it can)

I received recurring collection calls from Chase about a deadbeat balance. The guy who owes the money has the exact same name as me and lives in the same town. I light up the caller every time and insult them to no end. Good times.

For your situation, I take a pass. Treat it like you got flipped the bird on the expressway. If you think it'll make your wife feel better about being dressed down, then write the nasty letter. Maybe something will come out of it. Tell your wife to hang up on all future marketing type calls.

You're going to have to think whether your satisfaction equals spending even more time on this.

A response from them and a subsequent response from you will take 4-5 weeks. Plus, like someone mentioned, the bill collector could've been outsourced to another company making their position stronger in terms of violating the law.

A simple phone call would be quicker, but like the letter, you could be passed around by seemingly incompetent CS representatives who know nothing of what you're talking about. It's like corporations with horrible Customer Service have risen atop the food chain...

If all that doesn't sway you, don't mention that your wife is pregnant during your "negotiations" as it'll hurt your position and they'll brush you off as an angry protective husband, pat you on the head, and off you go.

Next time a jack off calls your home, tell your wife to tell the dude to **** off. It's the bill collector's job to extract information. She would've won right then if she did that.

    haven,

Dude, I don't know if you have me on ignore or you feel that my posts aren't worthy enough for you to respond but I have always felt that you exhibit a somewhat arrogant attitude from your posts on this BBS. Then I read this quote:

And I'm like "there's 2 peas in a pod if there ever was." If you and your wife really have these attitudes in REAL life (just not on the BBS), something tells me that there are always going to be little annoying things (at least annoying to you and her) that will happen to you and her that will get under the 2 of you's skin.

Yes, the bill collector was in the wrong for calling your wife "stupid", but really man, just let it go. Think of it like someone else said about getting flipped off on the highway - the guy is an idiot and move on.

Eye for an eye.. Tooth for a tooth..

I'd be pissed also, everyone that says "It's not worth it" is only speaking for themselves.. If it's worth it to you write them, call them and work your lawyer stuff on them.. If anyone made my wife/girlfriend cry because of insults even if her hormones are out of whack you bet I'm gonna get pissed just like you did.. It's not like this is going to take much of your time to let them know how you feel.. When it boils down to it they broke the law insulted your wife and in turn made her feel bad and they should be called on it..

    Good Luck

I probably would just let it go, but I completely understand your frustration.

Why they are calling you to get your mother's information is what I find strange.

All this changes if he'd said he was robbed, though.

Haven's having a kid? That's awesome. Congrats, dude.

She shouldn't have picked up the phone in the 1st place. If you don't recognize the number, send it straight to vmail. That's what I do.

I just get the same stupid message from them that it's very important I call them.

    F**k `em!

can't you send like snipers on the rooftops of the bill collectors home?

i'm pretty sure I read somewhere that this is perfectly legal.

You let your wife pick up the phone? Rookie move right there. As Man, you should handle all external communications.

Maybe she gave them his number as a reference in case she could not be located.
