Before anyone kills the idea of this team not making the playoffs - notice that UTAH at the 8th seed is .500.

For the Rockets to make that up - they need to finish the season at 28-16 - and they will be .500.

That's not impossible - with Yao and Tracy - it's very possible. So don't write the playoffs off just yet.

i think that 28 and 16 is actually pretty bad. we need to be like 33 and 11 i think that great teams show why they are great. if the rox win only 28 and lose 16 that is only 12 games above .500 for a team that is like 12 games below .500 if they want to show they are a true contender they need to pull a bad a$$ record bc if they dont they obviously didn't deserve it this year, injuries happen but you have to pull the team together and strive to be better every game which i think JVG instills. After the blab I think the Rox will go 33-11 plus or minus 2 Tmac looks like "Da MAn"

I agree with your analysis: it's imporbable, but not impossible.

The only issue is time is running out on this team getting back to near full strength to compete for the second half of this season. Yao is not back yet and even then he will take a few weeks to get back in shape, and most likely his teammates will struggle to incorporate him back into the game plan and it will take at least a couple of weeks to get that chemistry down.

So, I don't know, I am now of the mindset that I am just going to enjoy watching these guys play and try in earnest to make a comeback and get into the playoff picture. I will take the type of exciting basketball these guys have been playing on this road trip any day of the week...win or lose.

The Rockets will definately need to be over .500 to make it to the playoffs. If you haven't noticed there's a lot of teams right around .500 and one of those teams is sure to finish the season at least 3 or 4 games over .500. More than likely the 8th seed will win around 45 games, meaning the Rockets would have to go 31-11 the rest of the way in order to have a realistic shot at making the playoffs.

it was hard enough sitting through the offseason when the rockets were knocked out in the 1st round. it will be one shtty offseason if they don't make it to the playoffs.

I wouldn't worry about it cause the Rockets are going to make the playoffs. We will beat the bobcats and then play MInnesota and beat them. WE will be 16-26 then. Go Rockets!!!

Rockets were 21-19 after 40 games last year. They went on to win 30 of their last 42 and finished the season 51-31. If they are able to go 30-12 for the rest of the season, their final record would be 44-38, which might just be enough for the 8th playoff seed. It's still a long shot though.

We now need to go 24-11 to finish above .500 and in contention for the 8th seed. Another way to look at it is we need 2 or 3 wins for every loss.

This won't be easy, and I have to say is a long shot since this is assuming that none of the teams on the bubble get hot and finish 5 or 6 games over .500

Our record with both TMac and Yao playing is 12-6, which is exactly 2 wins for every loss.

to be honest, id rather be 7th and take on phoenix at this rate. our shutdown D can slow their game, probably better off playing them than san antonio. but if dallas is 1st, id rather take the 8th...imho
