I came in today and had no sounds on my computer. I checked all the bonehead stuff. There are no mutes on, all the volumes are up.The speakers work fine with the speaker test button on them.

Did anybody just have a sound card go out?
In the control panel under sounds, hardware, it says the sound card is working properly.

Check Windows Device Manager to see if you get a (!) next to the device. If that doesnt fix it, you may need to new sound card.

You made sure the "Wave" slider in the audio controls is up as well as the master volume?

    I did restart.
    I don't see any !
I'm pretty sure all the sliders are OK.
The speakers will make the test sounds from the button on the subwoofer so I know they work.
I plugged headphones into the speaker/out jack and the jack on the CD player and got nothing.

I assume something happend to the soundcard but the the
control panel/sounds/Hardware/Creative SB/Device Staus says "this device is working properly". That's why I am confused.

I was listening to music yesterday.

OK I'll go buy a new sound card, thanx

    (download a soundcard?)

remove the sound card in device manager and restart. maybe when the drivers get re-installed it'll work again

(download a soundcard is a reference to an older, funny thread)

    Funny ending......
I went to Comp USA to buy a sound card and the guy said if you don't get it from Dell the slots aren't the same. So I callled Dell, the guy said that was wrong just get a center slot, but I went ahead and ordered on from Dell even though it was $40. While waiting for delivery, my cat walked around behind the subwoofer and bumped my power strip plug out of the wall. I plugged it back in and everything rebooted and lo and behold the sound came back on???????????

I had rebooted once or twice during my repair attempts and the speakers themselves were working it just wasn't getting a signal from the computer. The sound card is internal to the computer so it should have been shutting down with the computer.....I'm stumped. But my cat earned some 'treaties'
