It's really a waste of breath and server space to talk about YOF or YOH. When Yao do well, so does the Rockets. When Juwan do well, so does the Rockets, when TMac do well, so does the Rockets. Let's just support the whole team. Some people have nothing better to do than label someone and judge someone who they only know by their online identity. When you don't know that person at all, it's silly to judge someone.
I'm saying if the Yao only still are Rocket fans after Yao retires etc, then they are true Rocket fans. I want the Rockets to do well no matter who is on the team. That's the difference. And I'm from HOUSTON. I like the HOUSTON ROCKETS. I have been ever since I can remember from the early '70s, sitting on my dad's lap at Hofheinz to watch Rudy T and company play. I camped out for finals tickets in 86 when I was 16. I have watched almost every game since 90 and so on. This is what my backyard looks like during playoffs with or without Yao Ming: So yeah, dont give me ****.
I know you are from Houston. That doesn't give you rights to give others ****. That doesn't give you rights to lecture who qualifies as a Rockets fan. I've been called YOF on this boards as well, although I've been Dream fan and Rockets fan for years. I have relatives and friend who live in Houston, have been Rockets fans forever, and they are big Yao fans as well. They take it personally when some craps were said about Yao. So just cut the "I am here first" crap. If you are a true Rockets fan, you want the team to do well, you want everyone to love that team, and pay attention to that team, for whatever reason. It's not about YOU, it's abotu the Rockets. People can care about the Rockets for all their reason, even just because some might find the dancing girls hot, for Chirstsake. I am happy that the Rockets becomes the third most valuable team in NBA globally. It doesn't hurt my feeling, that some fans came after me or before me, some fans take notice of this team for different reason than I did. Why can't you be more tolerant? [Edit] Ahh, what am I doing here?! Sorry about my tone in all the heats. I just hate any labelling both here and in the D & D.
Well WNBA is in fact a YOF/YOH all in one package. He is one of these hypercritical Yao fans that gives Yao no slack whatsoever because he has so much invested in him (where Yao's poor play actually shames him), but on the flip side will waste no time ripping into any player who seems to take away from Yao's performance. It's true how there are a lot of YOF name callers around here. The accepted definition of YOF is one who only cares about Yao even to the detriment of the team. But a lot of people seem to get labeled as YOF even if they support Yao and the team wholeheartedly. Take pryuen for example. He got a lot of YOF heat the other day because he was supporting Yao against, what he thought of as Will's malice. Now I've read a lot of pryuen's posts on this and other boards, and I have to say that the YOF label does not fit at all. I've never heard him ever utter anything derogatory towards anyone in a rocket uniform. Surely he supports Yao the most and wouldn't be a rockets fan if it wasn't for him, but YOF always, always holds the context that they don't care about anyone else but Yao. And that isn't like pryuen at all. Hell, he even posted those Clutch the Bear articles from the Chinese websites, and spent time and effort in translating that. The problem isn't that there are YOF or aren't YOF. The problem is that some people indiscriminately toss that label around in order to invalidate other people's posts, which ends up starting these ridiculous name-calling sessions. When in fact YOFs are just a small subset of all the fans Yao has brought in. There's plenty of level-headed Yao fans that want the team to succeed, whether or not Yao gets all the glory. I guess what I'm trying to say, is to not be so quick about labeling someone a YOF. There's a big difference between someone that cares only for Yao, and someone who likes Yao the most.
Excellent post, Cohen. I absolutely agree with your viewpoints, as they are spot-on. Texas Stoke: As for that "WNBA" person, he is definately not a YOF. I recall him trashing Yao at every opportunity he had. He seems to have backed off a bit recently, since Yao hasn't been playing. His remarks about Juwon make me suspect he is simply trolling here, trying to stir up arguments around here.
Do you really have that much trouble in reading and understanding WNBA's posts? He's been harsh on almost every Rox player who happens to have a bad game, including Tmac. Since Yao is the other superstar on our team, I bet it's only natural for any "troll" to pick on him more often than Moochie and alike.
I welcome all of the Yao fans. I could care less if they're Rockets fans so long as they draw in revenue for the Rockets. The kind of revenue that might make Les willing to spend a little more on quality players or willing to trade for quality players with big contracts.
This is just like the attitude toward immigrants. You got some immigrants who don't care much about the country (yet) and only seek their personal interests. Then you got the "I was born here, I bleed star and stripes, I have the America flag hang in my backyard, I love America so much lalalalala Any one lives here who don't love America should go home" people.
These people needed to be tossed out of this board. I dislike them as much as you do. Mr problem with this name calling is that I see a few posters always label the other people YOFs if those people happen to not agree with what they say about Yao Ming. If you read this board frequently enough you should know which posters I am talking about here. If you see someone who fits the profile above, you can call him/her a YOF for al I care. But to label another person without apparant and convincing reasons is weak.
Are you still a Oiler fan? Would you need Les to move Rockets to Baltimore to show that you are a Rockets fan? By the way, nice backyard
I am also surprised to see someone say WNBA is a Yao-only fan. I always think this 'WNBA' guy hates every Rockets players, especially Yao Ming (do a search on what he has posted before ) because they do not play in WNBA which is the league he actully loves.
I feel the same way. Just don't tell me that they are just as big Rockets fans as others becuase it just ain't true.
Who has told you that? Or did any of the so-called 'YOFs' in your eyes claim that they are as big Rockets fans as you are?
I love watching Yao play well. I wish Yao had a different coach and better teammates. I think he'd play better for Flip Saunders or Phil Jackson, and I think he'd play better with a real power forward. Maybe that makes me a Yao only fan, even though I've been a Rockets fan since 1981. Mo Malone was awesome. Except that, I think the same thing about Tmac. Sticks and stones y'all, but name-calling is really a pretty low level of discourse.
