YES, More Nostalgia just like the vomit and best scene threads. My wife calling me and asking me to search for "a show with a pediatrician with two daughters and a crazy hickory nurse with crazy stories" led me to find that The Golden Girls created this show Empty Nest as a spinoff. I was amazed and brought up more, like the stupid show Joey from Friends, and Frasier from Cheers. A coworker then spoke about Happy Days having Mork & Mindy as a spinoff. I argued that since I wasn't here in the States to witness it, I would have never guessed it. What other SPINOFFS do you remember and were they bad, or good? Remember, I got to the U.S.A. in '87, so most of the 80's sitcoms I love now (Night Court, Good Times, Cheers, Family Ties) are less old than the ones you could know.
Growing Pains-Just the 10 of Us All in the Family-The Jeffersons and Maude (I believe) Three's Company-The Ropers and Two's a Crowd
EDIT: Rm95 beat me to it. My Favorite in the "Bad" catagory would be "Three's A Crowd", the "Three's Company" spinoff that lasted one year with Jack married.
Forgot about Family Matters from Perfect Strangers and Facts of Life from Different Strokes. Weren't Knots Landing and Dallas connected somehow? I wanna say Dynasty too.
I don't remember that show... must have been before '87... Cheers spun off Frasier... and what about a show with Harry the magician dude? I know it's not Night Court... he WAS a Magician there, but not a good one... oh, yeah, Markie Post was hot, oomp.
I forget what it was called but there was a very bad short lived MASH spinoff with Harry Potter, Klinger and I believe Radar back in the states
Because my wife is sadly a Golden Girls fanatic, I know the show actually led to the creation of another sitcom, Golden Palace (once Bea Arthur left the show). - Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created from the movie of the same title. - Angel is a spin-off of B:TVS. - Cosby (on CBS) came from the original The Cosby Show (on NBC). - Don't forget all the CSI and Law & Order shows. - The Colbert Report came from The Daily Show. - Saved By the Bell: The College Years came from Saved By the Bell (which itself came from Good Morning, Miss Bliss). - Boston Legal was spun-off from The Practice. - Stargate: Atlantis came from Stargate: SG1. - Star Trek spun-off a few shows.
Appropriately titled Aftermash. Does Saved by the Bell: The College Years count? There was also Laverne and Shirley and Joanie Loves Chachi from Happy Days. Happy Days was also a spinoff from Love, American Style.
Can that really be considered a spin-off? Does having the same actors, but different characters constitute a spin-off. I vote no.
What about The Simpsons? Can that show be considered a spin-off from The Tracey Ullman Show? I vote yes. Melrose Place from 90210. BTW, can you tell I used to go watch football every Sunday with a friend and when the games sucked, all we talked about was television shows?
The best so far has to be "The Simpsons" from "The Tracey Ullman Show". The worst so far has to "Joey." http://www.pfunn.com/oddtv/spinoffs.cfm
When I first got off the boat and arrived to the US I loved to watch Different Strokes........Whatchyou talkin about Swoly?!
