http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,17859934-23769,00.html take it with a grain of salt but I thought you guys may find it interesting .....
Brook Larmer's book is a FULL LOAD OF CRAPS !!! If that was the case, then WHY Yao Zhiyuan and Fang Fengdi did not give birth to dozens of Yao Mings (male and female) that the Chinese basketball national teams, both male and female, can dominate the world ??
Yao Ming is the result of series of experiments in growth hormones and eugenics ... and Liu Xiang is a robot.
I read some excerpts..... how is it "FULL LOAD OF CRAPS" ?? A lot of the information presented is factual - either Fang Fengdi was a member of the Red Guard, or was not. Either she is domineering, or is not. If it were not true than she could sue him, etc. Either way, it doesn't have much to do with how much she has reproduced.
I joined in 2002 to be able to get into the forum and read the posts here. This is my daily dose of rockets news in sydney, australia as we don't get any NBA games on free to air television. I'm what the posters here would call a lurker!
I have read before (probably from Ric Bucher's book) that Yao had a kinda difficult childhood. His family couldn't afford to buy nutritious foods for him and he was always hungry. His parents sent him to the basketball school partly because they thought he would be fed with more nutritous foods over there. If Yao was really a project or something, you'd think the scientists would at least make sure he had enough foods to eat when he grew up. And Yao himself had talked about the first time he came to the US for a basketball camp in an interview. By my best recollection, he said he came to attend the camp together with his friend (probably the PG who was once on the Kings roster). But they ran out of money not long after they had arrived. So they had to borrow $60 from their coach. But still they could only afford three hamburgers for their daily lunch. Yao said he would eat two and his friend would only eat one because he was bigger. And then they would eat the free stuffs to fill up their stomachs. He said he still owed the coach the 60 bucks. If Yao was really a project, you'd think he would have been taken care of better than that. Well, may be the project ran out of funds right after Yao was born, not even a few dollars left to get him some milk.
haha the Australian connection is awesome.. No free to air NBA games shown down here in Penrith either
Nor in Hong Kong. I subscribed to the only 2 sports channels (ESPN and CableTV) that show NBA but both of them are reluctant to broadcast Rockets games, probably once a month. And they will only announce their broadcasting schedule like a week in advance.
And that's more dangerous, being "a lot", not "all". As if now "full of crap' is believable. Oh, and I don't believe you actually don't understand what he means by "full of crap", as intelligent as you are. BTW, this book's content has been discussed before.
The problem most Chinese posters/viewers here have with Larmer's book on Yao is not about the Mama Yao's background in those tumultuous years, but the conspiracy mystery crap surrounding the *creation of Yao*. The topic has been heatedly debated in this thread.
I knew a guy couldn't be 7'6" tall and be as mobile as Yao without being part android, I wonder whether it was Yao's upper body or lower body that the Chinese government made bionic.
And take it with a bag of salt especially if the story comes from Foxsports in Australia... I know there are English system and metric system in the world, but since when the Australians invented their own measuring units?
What the heck did China only manufacture one Yao? Why the heck doid not they manufacture 1 billion Yao? Very stupid, don't you think?
The Whole genetic engineering thing is getting out of hand. If you read the book, you'll find that Larmer's explanation is plausible. It's not like the Chinese government were breeding super humans in a laboratory somewhere. Yao Ming's parents were both handpicked by the government to play basketball because they were tall. After they both retired their coaches set them up together and there was encouragement to marry. In a country where arranged marriage used to be the norm, this doesn't seem that far fetched. When Chinese officials started thinking Yao Ming could be a star, they hired a scientist to come up with ways to make Yao taller using Chinese medicine. I think he gave him stuff like fungus that grows on dead insects. Whether that made him taller or not, Larmer lets you decide for yourself. It seems just as likely as all the freaky organic pills you can buy at Whole Foods making you more energetic, lively, etc. To those who wonder why the Chinese didn't treat their project differently, or acted in a certain way, you should just read the book. China has been in turmoil for decades, subject to quick leadership changes with drastically different political views. One day people are thrown in prison and the next they are made leaders of the country. Of course the way Yao was treated didn't make sense. Nothing made sense in Chinese politics.
Man... The Rocks gotta starting winning games real soon.... Are the next article you will be reading is.. "Scientist find proof that Tracy McGrady is actually from the Planet Pluto.. News at 11"
The Author of this Book and Article shows that he hates China and would say anything to gain publicity. Sounds like he has attempted to atribute generalizations to Yao Ming and Family, without any substance.
