The evidence is all over congress, all over our already written laws, the facts that there has been precious little legislation aimed at overturning that.

But it also goes on to state "but many are concerned" its true they don't show polling data but at that point its a flawed editorial statement if it is meant to be an editorial statement since it contradicts its own main point. All it is is a general statement used to provide a transition from one part of the article to the other.

Its transitioning from stating the argument made by supporters for the system to the argument made by those against and just shows that there are many people on both sides.

    Few would but many do.

You're reading way too much into it in an effort to discredit the NYTimes.

When a poll asked would you support wiretapping of telephone conversation and surveilance of emails on Americans to fight terrorism, 50% answered YES.

When asked are you OK with such monitoring on your own activities, half of those who answered YES to the above question said NO.

We've seen it time and time again, when it's someone else ass got whipped to make you *feel* secure, even if the victims were not perpetrators -- whether they were collaterally killed Iraqis, a helpless bipolar disorder sufferer Mr. Rigoberto Alpizar, or innocent Pakistani villagers -- it's perfectly OK with a lot of Americans. Hey, we actually did something in WOT. What's more, God is on our side, isn't?
