Barkley gave up his team captaincy because he didn't want to shake Pippen's hand at the team captain meeting before the game. Matt Bullard went in his place. Barkley's comments :
"I wasn't going out there to shake his hand or have anything phony to say to that guy," Barkley said. "I thought we were friends, but he showed that we obviously weren't and so I gave up my captaincy for the night... Why do I even want to say anything to that guy?" Barkley asked. "I hit him a couple of times when he was coming down the lane, just to let him know that I was thinking of him."

Barkley on what he thinks of Pippen and his leadership abilities:
"Last year he came to Houston and had career lows in just about every statistical category and everybody said he (was horrible). Now all of his numbers are even lower and people are saying how great he is. He is the same player."

Pippen wass asked if he had any regrets:
"Probably just the way things came out between Charles and me," Pippen said. "I looked at it as an opportunity to get out of there and go play in LA. I wasn't trying to disrupt any relationships."
Dr's Editorial Commentary -- This one's weird folks... wonder how Portland fans feel about this. Pippen flat-out admits he said what he said to get out of Houston and so he could go to... LA. What an IDIOT that he'd admit he'd rather go to LA than Portland now that he's at Portland.

    Olajuwon on the Pippen/Barkley feud:
"That is their thing," said Olajuwon. "But I am disappointed in Scottie."

    Barkley on Pippen again:
"He's happier now," said Barkley. "Because he's not in Houston. I guess we are too."

Bullard on his last second miss to tie the game in overtime :
"I don't mind if you can't shoot it well, but I felt the shot was perfect," Bullard said. "It felt so good and it came out. I hate that feeling. I thought for sure it was good. I was backpedaling for the highlights it felt so good."

Olajuwon on his injury and when he may be able to return:
"I don't know at all with this kind of injury," Olajuwon said. "It's the wrong sport for this."

Pippen on the Blazers' lackluster play:
"It wasn't that great a win," Pippen said. "We don't have anything to celebrate about. We didn't come out and beat this team as well as we would have liked to."
Dr's Editorial Commentary - damn right you didn't b*stard, and you're lucky you even left with a win

Francis on his poor shooting after coming off a sprained ankle:
"I shot us into a coma," he said. "The two days away really hurt me."

Rudy T on what he thought of his team after the emotional loss:
"I'm very proud of the way we played," Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "We played great defense, a lot of heart. We got the shots we wanted. The game plan and defense, we were a little smarter -- I enjoyed the hell out the game."
Dr's Editorial Commentary -- Man, you just gotta love the joy this guy gets out of basketball whether you like his style of play or not.

Cuttino and Scottie are close... wow... didn't know:
"I kept telling Scottie I was coming at him," said Mobley. "I love him. He's my mentor."

Cato on the way his team played:
"To a man, everybody played hard," Cato said. "Nobody thought they were overmatched. If we played every night like we did tonight, we would have a winning record."

Bryce Drew killed Tony Massenburg! [IMG]:
"I didn't stretch good enough, I guess," Massenburg said. "Bryce (Drew) got ahead on a break and I went hard to try to block the shot. He was ahead of the pack and I was closing, but he up put one of those floaters. I don't even know if it went in...I'll be all right," Massenburg said. "I really want to be ready by (Monday). I'm pretty sure I will be back by then."

TrailBlazer fan on the Oregonian's Blazer Forum:
"i just went to clutchcity.net to read what rocket fans had to say about the game. boy was i amazed. almost everyone is saying we had a great game or something similar. it makes you feel like the blazers lost."

Another Blazer fan's post on the Rockets' apparent happiness with the loss and Pippen's disappointment with the win:
"It wasn't that great a win for us," Pippen said. "We don't have anything to celebrate about."

"I was very proud of the way we played," Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "We laid it out on the floor."

THE WINNING BLAZERS (represented by Pippen) is unhappy with their play.

THE LOSING ROCKETS (represented by Tomjanovich) is proud of his team.

How the mighty Rockets have fallen. They've been losing close games all year and now their coach is proud of them for losing this one. The Blazers certainly gave the Rockets opportunities to win tonight and the Rockets still couldn't get the job done. Could Houston possibly fire their 2-time Championship-winning coach??

  2. Dr....Im so glad you posted those comments.

I was going to comment on the influx of "Im so proud of our team" remarks after a loss. Which included Rudy. Does anyone else take umbrage that so far two teams have gone out of their way to totally diss the Rox.

First it was Phil Jackson stating how the only way the Rox could beat the Laker was wihout Kobe, and Shaq. Then we all had to listen to John "Lay down" Salley repeat those remarks. Now the Blazers are all commenting on how it wasn't how the Rox played that made the game close, it was how the Blazers didn't play. This is in all probabilities true, but a diss is a diss.

Rudy T. I know I have been hard on you mostly about how your teams are constanly bad at the same things. But cmon man. Dont give the Blazers fodder like "Im proud of our team even though we lost" thats a signal that you didn't believe your team can win. How about something like. We should of won. We gave the Blazers tha game, or even how disappointed you were in the outcome. That comment is the stapel of losers in every sport.

Never, ever did I think the day would come when I would hear Rox fans all but say that the Rox shouldn't of one one anyways in the event of a loss. The Rox should of won that game. They had the opportunities handed on a platter big enough to hold even my Thanksgiving turkey.

Note: Am I proud of the Way the Rox scrapped last night? Absolutely. BUT I never want the poor us attitude from our team, or to hear the garbage being spewed by fans of a franchise like Portland.

Last I checked the Rox have more titles than the Money Blazers.

    Uggh... You're right. We lost.

    Thud!!!

But what do we have to focus on if not the positives of a close game against the best contendor?

I say we can beat them under other circumstances.

Rudy: Ever strategised for an undead team?

My answer is Fu*k you. Catch my dust. Team: Hakeem on bench, Chuck active; Shandon, Cat, Steve see how much fire they can make in 12 minutes...Then look at the situation. Test.

Yeah....we played well....AT TIMES. But we still didn't make the shots when we needed them or this one would have never been in OT. I'm sure Portland feels the same way. Just like a win is a win.....a loss is still a loss. Sure, we should be proud we played well but Portland didn't play all that great like their used to. Is that because of our defense? Was it an off-night for Portland? I guess the re-match in Houston will answer these questions?

Although we did play well without Hakeem, I'm still waiting on us to beat a quality team. So far, we have beat Golden State, LA(without Shaq), and Dallas(with 8 players). This is definitely a bummer even though we are playing well. We all know we are better than our record. It's tough not to be disappointed thus far. And, when you lose, everyone has to find the latest scapegoat(s). It's a team game...the team lost...plain and simple. Sure, Bullard may have missed the 3 which we all felt(even he felt) should have gone in but there is plenty of blame to go around....if your looking to blame somebody. I don't care...it's still a loss. It was a good game, however.

P.S. I thought we played a pretty good game but I just looked at the stats and we shot something like 33% to Portland's 39% in field goal percentage. YIKES!!!! What game was I watching? We also had 23 TOs to Portlands 13 TOs. I can't believe we were still in it...FTs and rebounding kept us in it. It wasn't enough, however.

It's not like we played our best game and portland played their worst.IMO this was also one of our worst game's of the season,as a team.We did show determination to win and this is somthing that has been rare this year.
I think if both of these teams were at the top of their game's Rocket's take it.

i just don't have respect for portland fans who actually respect pippen. he is a loser. i'm not saying this because he left the rockets he has always proved he was. first he wants out of chicago after winning all those rings cause he is a baby. then he comes to houston for the money and figures out he's a loser and wants phil back. then he gets to portland and is still admitting he wants to go to la. he is an all out loser.
he still averages 15 pts a game though should we have kept him. he wanted to go to la but he's not there is he and he's still playing decent ball. i just hate the way rudy gave portland a championship ring basically by trading pippen for cato and williams. he could have at least got a starter. well anyways props to pippen on being a typical loser. a typical loser with 6 about to be 7 rings though right?

Sure, Yeah, Pippen is a looser, hmmmmm, with 6 rings.

Rockets' biggest problem is not player talent levels, it is the coach's ineptitude.

    Pippen again!?!?!?!?!?

You all just don't need to emphasize that Pippen is a loser. Who doesn't know it? [IMG] I'm also amazed by the Portland fans. Some of them have slogans like "Barkley, thanks for Pippen!" in the game.
