I hate police brutality with a passion. However, these kinds of situations ALMOST ALWAYS start with resistance by the person being arrested or detained. People just have to know you cannot resist when a policeman/woman tells you what to do. It doesn't matter if you are innocent or guilty. Yes, you should know your rights, but you must also know what your duty as a citizen is when a police officer issues you a command. People forget about this side of the coin sometimes. IMO, there must be more to the story. Any sane police officer is not going to abuse a 100 lb. girl in front of many witnesses. If she was intoxicated, I'd say it's 99% her fault. I don't trust the word of the guy taking the pictures. Too many times people with an agenda against the police or in defense of the person arrested will just flat out lie. I know there are bad policemen. I've got a relative with HPD who's told me enough stories. But people have to know when the police show up to control a situation, they will take whatever action is necessary to take complete control. That's just the way it is.
I was thinking about it. But I was like naaah. I was thinking about it. Maybe next pick up game, say Memorial day weekend. I was thinking that was amfootball also. what's a roller derby girl? Is that like a riot grrl on roller skates?
Well, if you notice, all the witnesses that are quoted stating the police overreacted didn't exactly see the whole thing. Whoever posted the pics in that original thread admitted they turned away and looked back after the violence had begun. So if this roller girl did go after the cop, they wouldn't know it. And the quote in that article posted earlier has the person stating "All I saw were her feet in the air and disappearing behind a cop car" right after stating that it was "very excessive." I imagine had this girl not bled everywhere, this wouldn't have been such a big deal.
LOL! The only way people in freaking Dallas would riot would be if the local Starbucks ran out of latte mix!
These pictures do not indicate at all whether the girl was or was not resisting. Therefore, there's no way to determine if excessive force was or was not used.
Based on the size of the woman and the cop combined with the amount of blood on the sidewalk and on her face, one can make a reasonable guestimation.
that is nuts. however none of us were there so we don't know what is really going on in those pics. Nevertheless, never hit a woman never shake a baby never pee into the wind
If she was drunk, he could've easily stopped her and subdued her no matter what she did. Neither one of those actions give a cop the right to do anything to someone that would cause that kind of blood loss. Especially someone half the cop's size. But, it is true we don't know the whole story. It's just not looking very good from this point of view.
It's true that we don't know the whole story, and I agree it doesn't look good. But keep in mind this girl was drunk on freaking roller skates. If the cop suddenly tries to subdue her were she to fight back, it doesn't take much imagination to come up with a scenario where she loses balance, falls on her face and busts a lip or nose or both. Then if he had her on the ground long enough, I could see her bleeding that much all over the place. Well, looking at the pics, it is pretty apparent she is not bleeding from the nose. Could be the lip, maybe.
