    I don't understand why he would park his motorcycle and leap off the top of those tires. Couldn't he have just driven around them on the other side.

    No it wouldn't. I race bikes myself, and it's not fun wrecking. This guy is lucky to go flying over the tirewall, since getting buried in it would probably really hurt him.
    I once witnessed a rider do the same thing in front of me, only he flew up and over the tirewall and landed on his feet....lucky sob.

    New to the 2008 Olympics is 'Reverse Long Jump' where the competitor runs backwards and leaps over a wall of tires, trying to land perfectly on a motorcycle.
    The competitors where protective clothing such as fire proof suits and helmets, as there is a flaming pool of angry sharks and electric eels on the other side of the tire wall.
