You can perform some grand historical analysis, but no one saying it IS Nazi Germany. Again, take some time to review the genesis..i.e. context of the comments.

I would add that Iran already has missiles that will reach Israel. History is full of examples where those in power in a country, regardless of the general opinion of their population, have embarked on paths of madness. Why should anyone take Iran's new President, the one the mullahs wanted, for less than his word?

I understand what you're saying, I just thought your comment regarding the comparo of Luxembourgh and China wasn't accurate in this context, that's all.

Iran isn't a pushover, I agree with that, and that's why the US has no plans ever to invade it, it will never go beyond a few airstrikes here and there. The current administratoin has been prudent enough to realize that a full-scale invasion alas Iraq isn't even an option here. The only thing the Israelis and the administration have ever considered is surgical airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, and even then they have acknowledged it might not be effective in taking out their nuclear facilities.

The mullahs wanted Rafsanjani, who's an established aristocrat. This guy Ahmednjani wasn't even on the political map, and he surprised everyone with how many votes he got. He's a 'populist' leader in a sense, a self-made man that pulled an impressive electoral victory over two establishment guys (Khatami and Rafsanjani).

Iran does have a semblance of democracy, that much can't be denied, even if you dislike this guy, he was elected.

I haven't heard a word from the mullahs disavowing what he's said about Israel. And it has a "semblance" of democracy? How many candidates were thrown off the ballots before the elections? And how does that have anything to do with Iran building atomics (and they are working hard at it), having the means to deliver them, and their President calling the Holocaust, "Adolf Hitler’s alleged massacre of the Jews came as a tailor-made plot and accelerated the rate of European Jewish migration to Palestine." That's from the I.R.I.B. broadcast quoted below, but he says the same thing.

That, and, "After World War II, the Zionists exploited mistreatment of a fraction of European Jews, when in fact he had killed tens of millions of fellow Christians, and attracted sympathies towards them. Researches have refuted the myth of the holocaust and the alleged figure of 6 million Jews sent to the gas chambers by Hitler. In fact, the total number of Jews throughout Europe, Russia included, did not reach 6 million during the Second World War days. Barely three years after the end of World War 2, the Zionists succeeded in usurping a part of Palestine and calling it Israel. Several researchers are of the opinion that Hitler cooperated with the Zionists and their quest for statehood. French Thinker, Roger Garaudi in his book entitled “The Founding Myths of Israel” has rejected the theory of the holocaust on the basis of documented evidence. Hungarian Writer, Louis Marschalko in his book entitled “The War Winners” writes that there were no more than 1 to 1.5 million Jews when Hitler took power in Germany, and he could have killed not more 500,000 to 600,000 Jews, compared to the tens of millions of Christians that he killed."

This is from '04 Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, quoted from Ottomaton's previous post, and the frightening thing is that it is just what Ahmednjani is saying today. Why should Israel, and the rest of the world, not take him at his word?

It does have a semblence of democracy, not close to a perfect one by any means, but from the three candidates that were left, Ahmdenjani pulled out the sports equivelant of an 'upset', that much is true. And no, he doesn't have the full support of the aristocracy (the mullahs as some call them), and as he has faced some opposition to some of his political appointees, and some in the aristocracy have in fact been troubled by the negative attention he's bringing Iran with his idiotic comments. I was merely elaborating on that part of your post, nothing more really.

I didn't say they shouldn't, I think the Israelis are, I think the world is, I think the policy we're currently pursuing is the right one (i.e. putting international pressure on them and threatening sanctions if they don't fully comply with the IAEA).

I will admit it's a delicate issue, more so than North Korea, which is regionally isolated and poses no real threat to its neighbors, IMO.
