If I'm Israel, I'm making plans NOT to be "wiped off the map"...The people had enough of that with Hitler.

In discussing Iran, Bush repeated his usual formulation that it is "unacceptable" for the Islamic republic to have nuclear bombs. He added that "the reason it's unacceptable is because Iran, armed with a nuclear weapon, poses a grave threat to the security of the world."

The president went on to fortify his argument by citing recent statements by Iran's new president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has said that Israel should be "wiped off the map." Bush said, "The development of a nuclear weapon, seems like to me, would make them a step closer to achieving that objective."

The "grave threat" language was not in any talking points prepared and distributed yesterday across the U.S. government, and it surprised diplomats and even some of Bush's own aides. During his State of the Union address in 2002, when Bush labeled Iraq, Iran and North Korea the "axis of evil," he said the three states posed a "grave and growing danger." And he later repeated the "grave threat" description to describe Saddam Hussein's Iraq. But by and large, he has shied away from those words regarding Iran.

Bush's language was evocative of Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, which authorizes force to combat threats to "international peace and security." A White House aide said it was not meant as a signal. "There was no intent to mimic language," the aide said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

So is "grave threat" a code for "it's time to wipe Iran off the face of the earth?"

When other Muslims( Iran) talk about wiping Israel off the map, doesnt that also include the Palestinians who live in Israel as well? Never understood that.

If I’m Iran I would be scared of the USA. After Iraq, Iran learned that the US no loner follows the UN, that the US has started one war of aggression with it's neighbor and considers it an evil country.

Why wouldn't they want a nuclear weapon to protect themselves?

Don't get me wrong, I think Iran with a NUKE is very dangerous but from Iran's point of view, that's the only thing that could keep us from invading if we so desired.

    Yup..

I'm talking about a nation that wants nuclear power, and wants Israel wiped off the map. Nazi Germany wanted to wipe the people of Israel's ilk off the map. The comparison is clear.

As long as they wipe Israel off the map, they would be happy to kill innocent women and children..

    Israeli economy > Iranian economy
    Israeli infrastructure > Iranian infrastructure
    Isreali millitary > Iranian military
    Israeli alliances > Iranian alliances
    Israeli nukes > Iranian missles

Israel has nothing to fear from Iran.

All it takes is one missle and a thought process from Iran that their mindset is to have Israel wiped off the map to instill fear. Israel should be making refined counterattack plans they are so adept at...

Israel is tiny, only between 10 and 85 miles across, less than 300 miles long. Easily fits into East Texas, but with a lot less population.

You don't think it should concern them that a wacko who has stated that there was no holocaust and he wants it wiped off the map ... should have access to nukes?

    Try to be somewhat objective.

And FWIW, Israel's GDP is about $130 billion, Iran's is about $500 billion.
