I was speaking in regards to last night. Here's who you have available: Moochie JLIII Wesley Head Mutombo Bowen What are you gonna do? Play 3 or 4 PGs or play Bowen? That's why he got so many minutes last night. And as long as 6 guys not even suiting up, you can expect to see Bowen logging in some decent minutes.
always hoped they'd both be retained. I'd personally rather have Padgett than Baxter. I think Padge can board decently enough. Not a banger, but still a boarder. But that's just me.
As someone already said before, it's not so much I'm givin heat to Bowen...it's just that I can't figure out how he made it into the NBA in the first place. I mean, I can run around like a man on a mission going after loose balls. Pay me the league minimum, and I can do that...I won't even take any shots! I'm just so curious of Bowen's basketball career and upbringing. I don't hate the effort one bit, and there was a time where i said, he's gotta take those open shots. I made the sad assumption he'd hit at least around 40% of them. I don't think he should take shots anymore. Opponents leave him open...that means, they are doubling someone else, that means they are playing 5 vs 4 when we have the ball. That means, we will have more difficulty in scoring.
Picking between Bowen and Padgett is like trying to pick which one of my kids I love the most. Of course, I hate my kids. So there you are.
Bowen is extremly quick on his feet for a man his height (defensively) .. now that's somebody not that easy to find...
I'm a much bigger fan of Padgett than Bowen. Infact, Bowen is one of those players that if we lost them I wouldn't be upset. Like DA or DW.
We coulda been playing Scott!!!!! 3's, rb's, decent but not great defense. Rybo just gives up too much on the O side. We need to have him just drive to the hoop every time he decides or needs to shoot, flop into a big man, draw the foul, hit an occasional FT and get the other team's big men in foul trouble.
Bowen is a great player when hes surrounded by Offensive talent.... Like uhhmm.... Yao and t-mac? yea i think those 2 are good... anyways you cant talk trash bout Bowen. Hes a solid defender and if you dont agree think back to last years playoffs Bowen vs Dirk... i think Bowen did a fantastic job So hush you Bowen hatas Peace! I must say tho right now we sure could use a pure shooter like scotty p
Also who dosnt LOVE watching bowen running around like a chicken with its head cut off... CUS I KNOW I DO!
Bowen was positive overall defending Dirk until the Mavs figured out they can leave him wide open and lock down our other players. Fool's gold.
I'd much rather have Padgett...Bowen hustles and provides energy, but the MOST he will get you is 1, maybe 2, offensive boards and a steal...in 20-25 minutes...meanwhile he's a complete offensive liability who is under the impression that he's a 3-point specialist...Padgett IS a great shooter (he was over 40% from 3 in his tenure as a Rocket) and he's also capable defensively, and a better rebounder than Bowen... I want Padgett back
Padgett. And if I see that 15% 3 point shooter chuck up any more bricks, I'm going to HTown and strangle him myself. Bowen - you do NOT have a green light on the 3s even if your open. You might as well count that those possesions as a TO.
Your key statement is Right On, but I would make the statement even stronger ...! See below: "THis is where I think the lack of creativity on the part of JVG hurts us, no, it continues to kills us"
You obviously don't realize that Bowen is not a great defender, but is just a good one. Most SFs are quicker than him and most PFs bully him. He matches up well with your bigger SFs or your quicker PFs (like Dirk), but that's about it - he should only have a very limited role. His defense isn't so great that it makes up for his zero offense. That being said, who else do we play? I think there has to be someone in the CBA or the D-League who is better than Bowen, but why bother? That one guy won't make a difference this season. I think JVG likes Bowen for the same reason Lenny Wilkens used to always have Craig Ehlo on his teams. He once said that if he ever needed to motivate a player, he just tell the player that he was worse than Craig Ehlo, and that would do the trick.
