apparently people who live by me have no idea how to set their router so that only they can have access to them, i found out i can get online via wireless since August when i first got my laptop. but i left for college and now when i came back, since i have Port Magic by AOL, it even lets MY computer manage THEIR router it still like this lol. so do you?

    Nope.

I've got 8 wireless signals coming into my Apt.. and they're ALL encrypted.

Yea its pretty fun to mess with people with unencrypted wireless signals. A friend of mine would dump some very gross and strange p*rnography to say the least on their computers or he would send them messages that say stuff to the effect of "I'm going to kill you motherf__kers" or other similar threats. It's pretty funny to watch their wireless signals to shut off immediately once these types of things happened.

Or on the flip side, he would unencrypt his signal and let people on to his computer and then do the same thing.

I remember the D&D thread on this a couple of years ago. I'm too lazy to search for it. It was a good thread.

No, but I haven't gotten around to encrypt the one I use in this house. I just don't feel a threat pesonally.

Even still, my "network" has always acted like a b****, as in I haven't consistently been able to connect with the other computers in this house.

And my wireless connections access have been an absolute b**** since I installed the driver update. It always stalls and freezes with errors for unknown reasons if I want to see or change signals. Go **** yourself Sony.

if im not mistaken, if you have linux running and a prism chipset you can hack into any 802.11 wireless network... takes a while, but its doable. :D

oh and the answer to the above question is yes.

If their unencrypted signal is broadcasted over my property then yes I'll probably leech it IF my wireless was down. I would not go as far as driving up to someone's house and leech their internet off of their private property. Now if i'm somewhere public like at a business and I see open wireless I will leech it as I will assume it's a hotspot.

There is one unsecured router in my area that I leech on if:

    1) My internet service is down.
    2) If regular surfing is slow because I am downloading a large file, i'll switch over to the unsecured.
    3) My router doesn't allow me to do FTP uploads to my webhost's server (I've spent countless hours trying to figure out why it doesn't...) Its easier to just switchover to the unsecured and upload my files.

I hate that application. My laptop had that and I formatted it. It works much better with the Windows wireless network setup.

No I don't, because they can get your IP address if you join their network. It isn't worth it.
