JM, NY: DO YOU THINK THE ROCKETS HAVE ANY CHANCE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS IF THEY CAN STAY PRETTY HEALTHY ONCE YAO COMES BACK?

Chris Sheridan: Absolutely. They're only six games under .500, they have one of the three best players in the league, and they have enough veterans surrounding Yao and T-Mac to win one or two playoff games on smarts alone. That being said, I detect that the Rockets are scared stiff about where this season is heading, and it leads me to believe that they're one of the teams poised to shake things up soon. They're not drawing well at home, and they're not playing well there, either.

Matt (Los Angeles, CA): Which team do you feel is most likely to make a surprise run after the all-star break? And who will make a surprise fall?

Chris Sheridan: Thanks, Matt, for not including the word 'trade' in your question. Out of 707 questions in queue, about 690 fall into the other category. The team I like to take a turn for the better is Houston. The team I see falling is Milwaukee.

The reason they don't draw well is that is so damn boring to watch a JVG team.

no, i bet if they lowered the ticket pickes, more of the true rockets fans would attend home games and it would be a much louder arena.

Well, I have to agree with his assessment of the Rockets.

You are not lying. NBA is entertainment. Albeit sporting entertainment, it is still entertainment. While JVG might be a good coach, he has some of the mose ugly, boring basketball in the league. I am not going to pay an arm and a leg to go watch that kind of basketball. When we got DA, Rafer, and Swift I thought we would change our offense to a more uptempo one. That definitely didn't happen. At the beginning of the season when everyone was healthy it became even more slow.

How do you guys find watching your home team boring?? I dont understand it, i've watched just about every game JVG has coached for us and it doesn't seem boring to me at all. I know they're not the flashiest team, but as a rockets fan, i love watching this team play no matter how bad they are. Now when i watch other teams play, i find those games boring because there's nobody to root for. It doesn't have the same feeling as watching a rockets game. I guess only true fans could see the beauty in a JVG style offense. :D

When the Rockets were on a roll last seaon they were fun as hell to watch. They scored over 100 almost every game and they WERE a running team. They just need to get everyone healthy so they can get on the same page and "click" under JVG. Same Pattern last year. Horrible start cuz everyone had to get adjusted to JVG. With so many injuries, and new players, the adjustment this season is simply longer.

Sorry, no, it is boring. Excrutiating, really.

We have 2 of the most interesting players in the league and still JVG's product drives customers away. You can't give away free tickets in my office. Non-fans who take the free tickets complain later that they feel ripped off. Of course, the cost with parking and concessions for a non-fan group of 2-4 is somewhere around $ 50.00, even with the "free" tickets.

There's just not going to be a lot of people who didn't follow basketball converted to become return buyers. People are driven away. There is no excitement at the game. I have to say The Summit was far superior - more excitement, less stratification and isolation, better views, free parking, better traffic management and access, lower prices. Toyota Center sucks and the Rockets brass sucks and the game is boring. No wonder they can't sell.

    So don't watch it!
Only true rockets fans love the way they play...how can you not enjoy watch tmac play, he is a top 3 player that can dominate a game, i didnt see francis do that the previous 5 years....anytime you have a player like mcgrady who can create a shot anytime he wants, it will always be fun to watch him!

and i disagree with you on the comparison of the stadiums...toyota center is a far better place to go than the summit ever was..i dont remember the summit ever having a huge cubed scoreboard in the middle of the stadium??..if you didnt realize there is free parking all around the stadium after 6pm....its called street meter parking!

they cant sell because they cant win....
once they start winning then the bandwagon fans come back and the rockets will be the talk of the town again

Doesn't seem like a very effective marketing slogan.

There is a sales problem with JVG.

    He is unpleasant and dismissive.
    His game is ugly.
    He isn't winning.

Loving the Rockets with JVG is like loving the formerly hot girl with VD. You have to be a pretty "true fan" to put up with the warts and boils. Firing the coach would be a a good shot of penicillin.

The reason no one goes to Rockets home games is 'cause we've only won 3 of 'em!

Really? I thought I remembered the compaq center being pretty empty before JVG came along. If we aren't winning, we won't draw a crowd. That seems to be pretty much the deal with Houston basketball fans.

I do agree with the fact that the compaq center was more appealing than the toyota center to watch games at.

Watching the Rockets was also boring before the last few seasons. They haven't been 'exciting' since Olajuwon-Charles-Drexler.

It seems most people forget how excruciating it was to watch for awhile there. There were so many ISO jokes on this board it was overwhelming.

Yao's intro and McGrady's play have been the only jolts we've had. Unfortunately, with the injuries, they've not been around.

With both of them healthy, Rockets games are much more exciting than they'd been in previous years.

Sure we are losing but if I lived in Houston, man I would go to every game I could.
I have NBA league pass and even though there are teams out there with more pleasant styles, theres nothing like watching a rockets game in terms of getting my adrenaline going.
Not that I have that option, but I wouldn't even bring a hot chick to watch the game with me because it would distract me from watching my team.
Also, there have been good, thrilling games this season... the win at Golden state and vs the lakers come to mind.
