I didn't see a thread on this... This is crazy, everyone was reporting that 12 of the 13 miners survived... Now it turns out that 12 of 13 are DEAD.. Wow, my prayers to their families
From Yahoo.com: Families Say 11 of 12 W.Va. Miners Dead 2 minutes ago TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. - Family members report that 11 of the 12 coal miners who were initially thought to have survived an explosion in a coal mine have died. The sole survivor is hospitalized. YAHOO Link
eddie.. thanks for the link.. I hadn't read a story on it yet.. I had just seen it live on tv and posted the fact that people thought they were alive makes it all so much worse.. that they got their hopes up...
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3563733.html The chron's page on this story changed literally just a minute ago.. it used to have a picture of the families celebrating the false report at the top.. followed by a headline of the actual news that basically all of them had been killed.. what a blow.
That's just terrible; CNN.com still has the "12 Survived" story up as of 2:30CST. A miner has got to be the most dangerous profession I can think of. This kind of hits home since something just as awful happened 12 days after 9/11 about 20 miles from where I live (Brookwood Mine Explosion). What a terrible tragedy.
wow this is tragic news. How did something like this happen? These families must be outraged. Three hours of thinking that your loved one has survived only to be told that it was not true.
Unbelievable...I just got online and on my Yahoo homepage saw the headline that they had survived...then clicked the link and says they are dead. Whoever it was that relayed prematurely that they had survived needs to be fired. Unbelievable...I cannot imagine what the families must be going through now.
yeah.... thats really gotta be horrible... i lost a close family member recently.. the roller coaster of emotions..... DONT **** with peoples emotions!!! its the principle... if i was one of those relatives... i will think of how we ACTUALLY 'celebrated' during a time meant for mourning... it is a sacred time which has been violated
So sad.. The more I think about it, the more I believe thinking they were alive had to have made this so much more worse.. Watching the press conferences now of everyone trying to explain how the idea that they were alive got out..
Wow...I saw this at midnight or so and I saw people kinda happy and saying that they were all alive. Now I find out all but one are dead? Thoughts and condolences...
In my office (at home) last night, I was literally clapping my hands when they reported 12 of them survived. Just found out about the real news and I'm sick to my stomach. They must find out who relayed the false information and hold that person accountable.
I dont believe any of the families will be able to watch Punk'd anymore. seriously, that is the worst prank you can pull on anyone, unintentional or not. The emotions they put these families through, I'm not one for suing people on emotional stress stuff, but man I can definetely understand this one if they did.
Not only were they reporting that 12 miners lived...but they were saying the survivors were going straight to the church to meet up with their families. I cannot believe that they put the families through all that. They were even interviewing the family members after the 12 were reported alive. That must make the whole thing that much worse....to go from euphoria over them being alive to devastation that they actually didn't survive. I went to bed thinking they were alive and happy for those affected. I woke up watching some interview with someone about how they were "cursing God" and the 12 actually didn't survive.
