Well We Knew This Was Coming (Capers to be Canned Monday)

    Sources: Texans to fire Capers
    ESPN.com news services

Houston Texans coach Dom Capers will be fired on Monday, league and team sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Even though team consultant Dan Reeves wouldn't mind becoming the Texans' next coach, owner Bob McNair will look harder at offensive coordinators like Denver's Gary Kubiak and San Diego's Cam Cameron with Iowa's Kirk Ferentz on everybody's radar, Mortensen reported.

Gary Kubiack/Texans Might Talk During Bye Week

Did not see this posted yet. I tried to edit out the title & add a new article since mateo beat me to posting the Capers firing from ESPN's update.

So here is my new thread title:
"Gary Kubiack/Texans Might Talk During Bye Week"

    Happy New Year...
    ___________________________________

ENGLEWOOD - If someone in the NFL wants to talk to Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak about a head coaching job, next week is it.

At least until the Broncos postseason is over.

By league rules, because the Broncos are in the playoffs and have a bye week, those teams interested in Kubiak can interview him only next week - the rule states interviews must take place before wild-card games are played Jan. 7 - if they have been granted permission by the Broncos.

If they do not talk to Kubiak next week, they will have to wait until the Broncos have concluded their postseason.

With the end of the regular season coming Sunday, several teams are expected to make coaching changes as soon as Monday or Tuesday. Many in the league expect the Houston Texans to ask permission to interview Kubiak next week.

For his part, including this week, Kubiak consistently has said he doesn't want to comment on potential head coaching jobs that aren't yet open. But he is a Houston native and is expected to be one of Texans owner Bob McNair's first stops.

He interviewed with McNair for the Texans job when the expansion team came into the league for the 2002 season, and the team eventually hired Dom Capers.

At 2-13, the Texans have performed far below McNair's preseason prediction that they would compete for a playoff spot, and McNair informally has been asking some colleagues in the league about potential replacements for Capers.

Finally, a step in the right direction.

    1) Next - fire Casserly and set Reeves up as GM
    2) Draft President Bush
    3) Keep or trade him for some extra draft picks
    4) Beef up OL with draft picks or FAs
    5) Improve DL with FAs or draft picks
    6) Get that 2nd WR to ease up coverage on AJ

    And we're set!

This is going to be an exciting off season. New coach, hopefully new GM, and a high draft pick.

Anyone notice the obvious cut and paste job in the article...

Capers is the only coach the expansion Texans have had during their four-year existence, and the club has a 17-44 record under his stewardship.

Until this year, Houston (1-12) had been a model of steady improvement, winning seven games last season after winning five in 2003 and four in its first season.

Hey Len and Mort u might want to update the record for Capers/Texans.

Man, I hope the players don't come out all fired up to win one for Capers today. That's the only thing that scares me.

This report is obviously will be true but Chris Mortensen sucks. He makes up a lot of reports and tries to get credit for obvious ones like this. Everybody and their moms knew Capers was going get fired on Monday or Tuesday. He also made of the report saying Phil Savage will get fired as GM of the Browns. Their owner was pissed about the report and he denied it. He also got Parcells pissed when he said Parcells was thinking about retiring.

I agree with you man. Remember last where when Ron Zook was fired but allowed to coach the last game for Florida versus Florida State and they beat them. Same thing happen with Dana Dimel as UH. He was fired but allowed to coach versus a ranked Louisville team and UH beat them.

Kubiak would be an outstanding hire by the Texans.

Kubiak, Texans might talk during bye week

Bob should have fired Casserly weeks ago. What a disaster he's been.

We got the 2nd WR - Jerome Mathis. He reminds me of Chris Sanders of the oilers, but he's not as tall as Chris.

Jerome Mathis has not proved anything yet as a wide receiver, so you can't say we got a number 2 wideout. He needs to prove he can stay healthy and he needs to work on his hands. He may have more dropped passes than catches this year. We need to bring in a veteren receiver who is a proven player in this league, something Dom and Charley refused to do.
