Wow....this was....ummm..........ummm.............I want the last minute of my life back. That's the problem with Yao. He's too hesitant. he shouldn't be saying ??????? ?????? ???????. Yao should be saying !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
If this is indeed Yao's words I think what he meant is that he doesn't have to be the #1 guy (the flower) but rather can be the complimentary player to the flower (green leaf or soil).
Ok, I think I get it now...finally. Tmac (flower), Yao (leaf), rest of the team (soil), JVG (he must be the gardener ) Did I get it right???
Traditionaly, Chinese people use "flower" to indicate main figure, but "green leaves" as supporting cast. Yao's words meant he would go even further beyond that, as long as the team is winning, not only doesn't he mind to be those supporting leaves, but also can even be soil.
My gosh! Yao is the reincarnation of Peter Sellers in Being There, the movie. He is Chauncy the Gardener!!! SO like he said in the movie, right now it is winter time and everything is sleeping but in the springtime the garden will bloom again!!! Playoffs here we come!!!
That was his quote sometimes last season when some Chinese reporters asked him why he chose to set PNR and screens for TMAC and other team mates, why he had to do all those blue-collar dirty work (rebounding & help defense), and whether he minded playing second fiddle to TMAC in offense. After saying as long as the team wins, he won't mind being soil (scrub) or green leaf (supporting cast) to the flower (the #1 star), he also said the following: "个人的价值是体现在球队赢球的基础上,如果球队一直输球,就算你拿再多的分,你的价值也是零。” which literally means: "Individual value will only be manifested upon the premise of the team winning matches. If the team continues to lose, it does not really matter if you score many points, your value is still zero." Personally, I don't find anything wrong in that kind of team-oriented attitude.
I think that's what Yao said yesteray to piss off Kobe, Pass me the ball even if you can make that open jumper, Bryant. Seriously, what he really means is that he does not care about his stats as long as the team wins. Willing to sacrafice personal stats for team success is a little differennt than simply accepting to be a role player, I think. He was using a traditinional Chinese saying and word to word translation won't do it.
Dude, not mean to be harsh, but your Chinglish sucks (I am Chinese too, so don't call me racist, ) It's more like: "As long as we can win, not mentioning be the sidekick of TMac (or literally, the green leaves shining under the shadow of flower), I could bear with being a bench warmer (the soil buried beneath)"
Well, the guy (I assume he is) thinks my post is so brilliant that he wants to be my friend, I don't see anything wrong with it. Obviously he agrees that JVG is the gardener.
