I think that's just the style he sings with, I don't think they try to sound British, if they did, they'd speak like that during interviews. Madonna on the other hand... ------------------ President of the CC.net Realist Club, everyone needs a dose of reality once in a while...
His 'style' sounds British. His singing sounds British. He is not. That's the point. ------------------
And it's about damn time someone was able to!! ------------------ "I don't want to join a club that accepts people like me as members."
I guess I mistook your statement as meaning they play themselves off as being some British band. I'm so used to that sound that it doesn't even affect me anymore, I still have a problem with Madonna all of a sudden sounding British in her interviews. How sad is that? ------------------ President of the CC.net Realist Club, everyone needs a dose of reality once in a while...
Hadn't heard any interviews with Madonna lately. I'll keep an eye out. That is pretty pompeous (sp?). I just have to laugh when these artists change their names and images, ala P. Diddy, Prince, etc. (you can throw Bowie in here too.) I guess they still sell and that is their business so hats off to all the freaks...excuse me artists for their ingenius schemes. No offense meant, "The Freak". ------------------
I hate... Backdoor Boys N'Whatever O-Down ( i know it is spelt with a t) all boy "bands" Papa Roach Lint ... probably many more as well... ------------------ Stevierebel
That's actually a pretty good list, a couple of Weezer's/Creed's songs are okay... ------------------ The title will come to ClutchCity once again.
Limp Bizkit is the personification of suck in current popular music. Any band that would name a CD "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" should be killed. Period. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
Here are the genres that pretty much suck: Lip-synching Boy/girl bands not included above... Hair metal Disco Rap "New" country "Old" country Square dancing music Talk show hosts, movie stars, and athletes that try to sing... Most 80's music ------------------
I hate when people say all boy bands. What about the original boy band, The Beatles. Well, Staind Madonna Limp Bizkit Backstreet Boys N'Sync Godsmack Insane Clown Posse Papa Roach SUCK Another thing... What up by saying ALL POP music sucks. Everything is POP music except most high school and local college bands. But in most cases those bands are trying to make it big which makes it POP music. KoRn Kittie Tool Jimi Hendrix Led Zepplin Violent Femmes Blur Rolling Stones are all or were POP. [This message has been edited by DaryleWard (edited July 16, 2001).]
Have to disagree with you DW, I wouldn't say the Beatles were a 'boy band' the Beatles actually played their instruments, they actually matured musically and about the only choreography they did, was a little head shaking and group bows (in the early days.) In my opinion, The Beatles weren't a 'boy band'... but of course in this thread, we are all entitled to our own opinions..call em what you want... just had to throw in my 2ยข rH ------------------ Updated: The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love! join the club! DW- You're listing Tool under pop bands? Sure they tried to made it big (what band wouldn't?), but that doesn't make them a pop band. ------------------ Women have suffered for too many years. Let's all pull together to end women's suffrage once and for all!
Anti Weezer and Nirvana, thats just not right. If you think these bands suck then your opinion is wrong. Thats right your opinion is wrong. The new Weezer isnt very good though. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
Oh and I really dislike Papa Roach, boy bands, Sugar Ray, and a bunch more. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
Alright I must confess that Tool is an extreme example of POP!!(That's an understatement.) They are weird and out there with there music but they are trying to broaden their fan base anyway possible. That's why bands have singles. If they didn't want more and more people to like the band and it's music then why entice people to buy their CD with a 3 to 4 minute teaser.(That would be a 8 minute teaser in Tool's case.) But who was so in love with The Beatles when they came to America... THE GIRLS !!! They were a group of hot(to the girls anyway) guys. The fact they could actually play instruments and were good was an afterthought. Even though that isn't what John Lennon wanted. Though I think that was what Paul wanted. Hey don't get me wrong here I love most of the bands in my previous post it's that most people don't want to admit there favorite band is actually POP(ular). Nobody likes POP remember. ------------------ Oh yeah forgot, Paul McCartney is the best bass player ever. ------------------ Now that I have hit a 200 post count I fill my life has to come to a plateau. Oh well.
So What exactly do you like? Covered pretty much everything in your post. ------------------ The title will come to ClutchCity once again.
Here's one that may piss off a few Austinites: An Austin-based musician that ranks up near the top of both my "overrated" and "suck" lists is.... Bob Schneider. Warning: Personal ranting and opinions follow! Read at your own risk! I have never understood the massive hype behind this guy's stylized Wonderbread honky music. If it wasn't for his movie-star girlfriend, nobody would know him from Adam outside of Austin. Plus, it seems that he or his band the Scabs play the Fabulous Satellite Lounge here in Houston every other weekend. No wonder nobody hangs out at the Satellite anymore! I just heard that he is opening some of Stevie Nicks' dates on her current tour. I think matching Schneider with the Sheepwoman is a perfect fit of bland, unchallenging soul-less music. He ought to think about opening for Kenny G. or Michael Bolton someday as well. It is truly sad that with so much great music in Austin, this guy gets the nod as being the King of the scene. It is further proof to me that, unfortunately, the Austin music scene died the day Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed and the day Clifford Antone was sent to prison. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
