ya thats true, but he's not even attempting it...if he was at least trying to do so and failed, then it would make sense...but he just turning into a 3 point specialist
everyone on the team needs to work on their mid-range games. you watch other games around the league, most teams have 3-4 guys capable of hitting the 18 footer. watch the rockets, everyone misses mid-range jumpshots.
I think Head is a career bench player like Bobby Jackson, Mike James, Eddie House and you can keep adding if you want.
Point taken. I would jack em up if I were shooting close to 50% to begin with. Now that's it's getting around 40%...keep shooting them. BUT...also realize you won't hit 50% anymore, and take it in for the flush Agreed.
I agree. And there is nothing wrong with that! I mean where the Rockets drafted, getting a nice bench role player isnt bad. For a rookie and being kinda thrown in there Head has done alright. The extended minutes I think are really hurting his game, but we have no choice right now. I think anyone that expects Head to be a fulltime starter and potential star type player is someone that is being set up for disappointment.
I think its just too early to tell what we're really getting for the future in him. Whether it's full-time starter or one of the first guy's off of the bench, we really don't know yet. The only thing we can conclude at this point is either way, the kid is a player and will only get better. But I definitely do agree that right now in his raw and rather passive and young state that these extended minutes are really hurting his game. It's unfortunate but this kind of situation could prove benefitial in the long-run in his maturation process.
Head can't shoot off the dribble, and besides Yao and Mcgrady, neither can anyone else on the team. Our role players are all catch and shoot players. That's the way this offense is structured. With Yao and Mcgrady doing 100% of the creating and the rest of the team parking out at the 3-point line. In the long run, this injury to Yao will probably be the best thing to happen to Luther, since it's now forces him to be more than just a 3-point specialist. It was starting to look like he was turning into a David Wesley clone.
hearing he is a gym rat, and thinking that Gundy tends to provide lots of coaching/assistants Luther at least sounds like he has a good opportunity to get everything out of his talent that is available, both this season and into the future. First 2-3 seasons 6-8th rotations player, what else is there is up to Luther and his talent limits. I think his hesitation to go to the rim might be partly the competition, but a lot is probably Gundy. My other guess is on defense Luther is pretty quick and has good hops, is rebounding well, but again Gundy is inside his head teaching him the Gundy rotation system. I think this is probably part of Luther thinking too much of where he needs to be to make Gundy happy, and some of these fast guards are blowing past him. He seems to have lost the early season rookie first time luck and is now thinking a lot. He also is just a rook and will make some mistakes. I may be wrong here but my take is that to be good one on one defending the fast guards Luther needs to be focused on just that man and be on his toes. In Gundy's system it seems our guys are flat footed and both watching their man and the ball in order to anticipate the rotation. Anyone with a better take on Gundy's defensive system?
I am by no means a coach, but just a fan viewing, but it seems this way: simply, a helping defense. never truly a double team. just flash to stop penetration, and fall back. if the player makes a move then stay on him, creating a double team. It is the responsibility of the closest person to your man, to cheat over anticipating a pass to him, to contest an open shot. in turn, the person he leaves, needs to be covered up by anotehr teammate...it kind of cascades around. simple in idea, tough to explain and execute to me. but works like a charm if your players can keep the energy up to scramble like they do. my explanation sucks, and is probably way off, but oh well, heh
