Just out of curiousity, how much of a monster was Amare last year when Nash was out for an extended period? How many games did the Suns win while Nash was out? How are the Suns doing this year while Amare is out and Nash is playing?

You think that Amare's success might have something to do with Phoenix's depth and Nash's talent?

And it may be possible that Yao's perceived lack of development has more to do with the fact that only two players on the Rockets would be starters on just about any other successful team in the NBA. Or maybe it has do with the inflated expectations.
Compare him to some of the other young big men in the league and see who you would rather have (Kwame Brown (#1 pick and plays with a superstar guard), Kenyon Martin (plays with two all stars), Olowokandi (#1 pick and plays with another superstar), Chris Kaman, Brad Miller, Emeka Okafor, Samuel Dalembert, Rasho Nestorovic (who plays with arguably the best starting lineup in the league and can't do squat)...the list goes on and on.

This thread is weird. Some unknown guy from some obscure website writes an article about Yao that basically says he's not the superstar somebody thought he'd be, (which is ridiculous considering many said he'd be a bust) and people actually give a damn. The dude is obviously some amateur and doesn't exactly have the greatest writing skills. Honestly, who cares?

    "1. Yao Ming

The big fella hasn’t turned into a complete bust, but not the star that the people of China were hoping for. He’s not very tough, isn’t very strong, and by no means can carry a team like most great big men can. Without Mcgrady out at the beginning of this year he had a chance to show what he’s capable of, and while his numbers were nice, the wins weren’t. He’s shown he is a good big man, but not that he’s a franchise player who can carry his team."

HHMMM... TALK BOUT MISCONCEPTIONS. I THINK THIS PROFILE PROBABLY MORE SUITABLE FOR YAO DURING HIS 1ST AND 2ND YEAR BUT THIS YEAR HE'S SHOWN IMPROVED TOUGHNESS AND STRENGTH. YAO MIGHT NOT CARRY A TEAM YET, BUT HE'S STILL A TOP 5 CENTER. AS FOR NOT WINNING MINUS TMAC, WELL ANYONE CAN TELL YOU YOU CANT GO FAR WITH A 1 MAN TEAM.

The score of a Suns game last season was usually like 110-105 with both teams totalled at about 90 rebounds.
The score of a Rockets game last season was usually like 82-79 with both teams totalled at about 70 rebounds.

    Do you get the point?

There were more shots to make and more rebounds to grab in a Suns game.

Oh, one more thing, Amare played 10 mins more per game too to get his stats.

Man, some people take this to seriously! We don't have to destroy his family. All we have to do is burn his house down. Presto! Problem solved!

Typical sports writer, 2001: Yao Ming may be great in China, but in the NBA he'll never be anything more than a Chinese version of Shawn Bradley, if that.

Typical sports writer, 2005: Yao Ming has never lived up to the high expectations we all had of him back when he was drafted #1 by the Rockets.
