That guy is an a-hole. He said in court to try and get a lenient sentence, "if I could bring back Leo, I would". Well, you can't you sorry bastid. I hope you get what's coming to you in prison....mainly YOU become someone's biyatch. The guy's Mom said he is an "animal lover". Yeah....no animal lover would ever even think about throwing a defenseless animal onto a freeway full of traffic....even in an act of rage. He should have gone to the other side of the window and hit her before he took it out on the dog. The dog didn't cause the car accident. He knew that she cared for the dog very much so he did it to make her hurt worse than he could hurt her.

I hope he enjoys his time in prison. Well deserved for being a dumbass. If you let your rage take over like that, then you have to pay the price. Some may not consider it to be a fair sentence considering worse offenses have resulted in lesser punishment but this lady basically felt like that dog was her child and she went through losing a child because of this inexcusable act. I know...she's a hypocrit because she eats meat...or does she?

    hehe

That f***ing b*stard deserves much more prison time than three years. He should serve a minimum of 20. That prick makes me sick.

This is the most ridiculous story I have ever seen in my life.

Do you really believe that anyone would have given a crap if it didn't look like a friggin cute little stuffed animal? Solely because of that picture does anyone give a damn. There are tens of thousands of instances of animal abuse per year that no one does anything about, but when some b*stard dog gets thrown into traffic, it's time to lock this "monster" up for 3 years.
I'm not saying what he did should be condoned, but come on, a 3 year punishment? Give this man a 1 year sentence or a 10 year probation where he has to work at an animal shelter.

The saddest thing about this is that the collective public put together a reward fund of about $125,000 to find this animal killer. There are innumerable cases where children are kidnapped and reward funds don't even reach $5,000. This just disgusts me, and it shows what the public really cares about. If it weren't for the media and low-rate journalists like Katie Couric constantly hyping this story, no one would give a rat's a$$.

Possibly the most ironic part of this story is that it could have been prevented if only the woman knew how to drive. [IMG]

Hey, if it helps stop animal abuse, then I'm all for it. People who abuse children should see much more prison time.

Yes, unfortunately animal abuse amounts to a misdemeanor in most states. I guess this particular state had more lobbying for stiffer penalties.

I don't want this guy working at an animal shelter. He would probably end up molesting the animals for crying out loud.

Yes, it is crazy how much the reward is. It doesn't mean people care less about abused children. It means people are taking a more pro-active approach against animal abuse...as it should be. How would you like to be an abused animal? Maybe you already are...who knows? [IMG]

    Cruelty to animals sucks
but hell some murders don't get 3 years
even when they are found guilty
[the asian woman that shot the kid in the
back for supposedly trying to steal a bottle
of orange juice comes to mind]

    He did it
He is punished. . . move on

Anybody hear about those as*holes from Baylor who mauled a cat around from their Tahoe? I don't think they got 3 years in prison did they? I wish our legal system would make up its mind for once and have a little bit of consistency. Maybe we should lock up Bush for 50 years if he drills in Alaska- killing a helluva lot more than 1 dog.

Don't take this the wrong way, I don't by any means condone what this guy did. But 50 yrs. for animal cruelty is excessive considering that others get slapped with a fine. This is just a case of a lawyer manipulating a jury.

The dog could be butt-ugly, and I still wouldn't change my opinion. That's probably because I don't think any animals are ugly.

    ... This just in!

We now have another witness who claims that the person running from the scene of this crime, was indeed, no one other then Kenny Thomas.

Is KT going to be extradited to that state to face similar charges? No wonder the Boylens dog bit KT... [IMG]

Will that free up some money to re-sign Hakeem and/or our other FAs?

3 years in jail for killing a dog is utterly ridiculous.

You folks saying he should get 20 years, or raped in prison have one motive- revenge.

    A proper prison sentence should-

    a. Rehabilitate the offender so he/she will not commit the same offense again.

    b. Act as a deterrent, so others will think twice about committing the same offense.

A $50,000 fine and a year of community service as the ruling would have accomplished both goals.

Now, the taxpayers will have to pony up hundreds of thousands of dollars to house and feed this clown, and he may leave prison a more dangerous man because of the experience.

I actually find myself agreeing with Kingrene. 3 years of prison for killing a dog is simply too harsh a penalty. Yes, it was wrong. Yes, the guy is a knob. Yes, the guy should be punished, but come on.. stealing three years of his life away is way too much.

What's next, five dollar fines for stepping on spiders?

He should have gotten a hefty fine (I think $50,000 is not enough; $75-$100,000 is more appropriate) and a lengthy period of community service (preferably at an animal shelter) would have sufficed. He should also have been made to undergo psychiatric treatment.

I take the retributive view on punishment, like Plato. When you do wrong you create a debt. Your punishment is how you repay that debt. Deterrence and rehabilitation have nothing to do with it, and really don't work anyway. If you want to reform people, they should be sent to therapy, not prison.

I don't even think China would throw a guy in prison for this long.

Yeah....I want to see him get his. It's just the act that has me perturbed. Maybe not even so much that a dog died...but the act of doing it. It might as well been a child he was throwing with that OJ Simpsons style rage.

Apparently, the judge didn't like it too much, either. An appeal would probably overturn this one. But, by the time his appeal is processed, he's served the time.

So, I guess the guy is screwed but then...he shouldn't have done it and just kicked the sh#t out of her car or something like "hey biyach...you hit my car...i'm gonna kick the crap out of yours you stupid...ahhh!!!!" . But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO he had to throw a dog in traffic.

Maybe this is setting a new precedence for animal abuse(if the sentence holds). Other states will begin to adopt tougher policies. Hell, we had someone poke a dog's eyes out here in D/FW and that dog sort of recovered(blind with no eyes) and is basically becoming famous around the country appearing at dog shows and stuff. The reward to catch that guy was up there as well. They never did find that evil person but I wonder what his sentence would have been?

It just seems like the types of animal abuse acts are getting worse and worse. It used to be satanic ritual cat killing and cars running over animals either intentionally or unintentionally. Then, Jeffrey "dumbass" Dahmer comes along as a teenager and starts killing all sorts of animals in heinous ways before he goes off on the human population. Now, you have sensational animal killing going on it seems like everywhere...whether it's using firecrackers, gouging eyes, throwing animals, poisoning them, etc. . How far does it go before they start giving these guys jail time instead of fines. Oh yeah...their meat and we eat meat...so I'm being a hypocrit. It's a f#cked up world...is all I have to say.

Do they still let you out in half the time for good behavior? If I had to guess, I would think somehow his sentence would get reduced or he would get pardoned.

Shut Up sufguy [IMG] You still misunderstand my point, well just a little. I understand her, and she is a hypocrit, a little bit, but because of the emotional attachment she had, it is HER LOSS and thus it is not hypocritical for HER TO BE SAD. BUT FOR ALL Y'ALL MEET EATERS, it's a different story.

Red Chocolate is damn right on this...

I think this guy sucks too, and should be punished, but damn! The inconsistency, the $125,000, it's just fukkin ridiculus. It's not bad, just ridiculous. Just my opinion though and not my money. I will say though i would never donate to that type of fund...keep all my extras going to the REAL needy.

If the guy didn't want any jail time, don't kill an innocent animal. Animals are living beings with intelligence. They actually care for human being when properly cared for. And for some idiot to go off and kill an innocent being for no reason is pathetic. Yep he should go to jail. There are many, many people who say that pets like dogs are cats are family. And this piece of garbage went out and killed a dog. Enjoy rotting in prison you piece of ****!

Uhh Surfguy, there is a BIG difference between a child and a dog.

And what do you mean tougher polices on animal abuse?
People are getting killed everyday and the have a 125k reward out for this guy? This shows you how much California is screwed up. They would rather throw the book at some petty criminal than go after the real crooks. Just sad and pathetic. It must have been one rich woman who owned that dog.
