    found this on another site.

I know we're not supposed to post eBay threads but this is just sickening. Anyone that would do this to ruin 100's of people's holidays is just wrong.

Step 1: Buy and sell electronics on eBay (if you're smart you'll make money here too) and become a powerseller so you get that cool icon and everyone trusts you. When you have them in your possession make sure to take pictures with a slip that has your username on it for use in the future.

Step 2: The first week in December list 440 auctions all ending within 3-5 days of each other (just so happens to be the same time you need to "wait for payment to clear"). In these auctions make up some bogus story about how a guy used PayPal to take back payment for something that he recieved so now you only take cashier's checks, money orders, or Western Union money transfers for payment.

Step 3: Move out of your ****hole apartment so when the cops come looking for you, you aren't there.

    Step 4:

    Step 5: Profit.

If it wasn't for the people that payed promptly with Western Union and realized he was a scam (and left negative feedback very quick) the guy probably would have walked away with $130k, but just totalling the people that left negative feedback I came up with about $31,000.

Sick, just plain sick. Absolutely ruined the holidays for hundreds of people.

    Wow, that sucks.

I had my own bad ebay experience this holiday.

I purchased a 500 dollar Martin guitar that arrived promptly at my door with a giant CRACK in it.

Fortunately I think the seller is going to help me get my money back..

But seriously, ebay needs to step up their fraud protection..

Check out the website they started up to try and nab this punk:

I dont care what kind of ratings a seller has, if they dont take PayPal that should immediately ring a bell. Online shoppers should be educated about the dangers of paying with cash/check/money orders when using Auction sites and once a person is educated but still decide to do it then they would only have themselves to blame.

Also consider that an ebay member's account could be stolen, and used without their knowledge.

My girlfriend told me about a mother who used EBay to get an XBox 360 for her kid. When it arrived two days before Christmas, there we're two house bricks in the box.

That is why you ALWAYS pay with credit card or paypal... you are covered 100% and you have your money back within days.

I agree with always paying using paypal; however, eBay needs to change their system. It really sucks when you do need to talk to a human being - as far as I know there is no way you can call and talk to a real person. That right there is not a good thing.

Nah, you can get through to eBay service rep's pretty easily, although eBay's real strength when it comes to scams is it's users who generally band together to help one another out as quickly as possible.

Oh, they must have gotten better then. Granted it was over 2 years ago, but I had a jerkass file a NPB on me (he did it in retaliation for me leaving him a negative which I gave him since he refused to ship me my item - fortunately I got a refund). In making my appeal to get the NPB removed (which I was successful in doing), I had to keep going to these links/sites and email constantly. I thought to myself, is there a person at all behind the scenes here or is it just one great big muddled system, lol.
