is this the kind of doctor/specialist to see? my nose is kinda crooked and i have some minor trouble breathing out of one of my nostrils.. i caught an elbow coming down from a rebound(in the air full body weight).. playing ball several years ago and is slightly visible.. it seemed to get worse.. i should also point out i had similar nose surgery 6~7 years ago by a family friend who was a 'plastic surgeon' and he did a fabolous job..they basically had to break the nose again and realign it etc etc.. the recovery period required a protective brace for the first week.. and to fully heal im guessing around a month. less than a year later i had the basketball accident.. i ignored it till now but it seems to get worse now.. much more visibly crooked..

Dr. John Jones is in the medical center. He's a fantastic Otolaryngologist.

Dr. Sam Weber in the medical center is the best ENT in town, if that is the route that you go.

    give either a try.

If you're in the Tomball area, Dr. Rance Raney is a specialist in the Tomball Medical Complex, and he's excellent. He handled me about eight years ago when I had a cholesteotoma in my ear (basically a tumor).

    ENT??

is 'otolaryngologist' the specialist for my problem? i know there are many doctors on this board and i believe word of mouth is best when it comes to doctors.

    could it be 'rhinoplasty'?

ENT = ear, nose, and throat = otolaryngologist.

No need to see an ENT, it sounds like you have a deviated septum with calcificaiton (from your injury). You need a rhinoplasty which is done best by plastic surgeons.

Try to find one that does many of these procedures and see as many as possible.

Make sure you as all the pertinent questions like: how many do you do per year, how long is the recovery, what are the complications, etc...

No I don't know any. I would suggest "shopping around".

Depending on your type of insurance, make sure you won't have to pay too much out of pocket. Also make sure you see as many as possible and ask many questions. Your insurance booklet should have a list of dr's you can see.

I suffered a nose injury too, but I am alright now. When I was trying to connect on a reverse layup, someone jumped in the air and whacked me hard. My nose feels better now... time cured it. Right now, I have some loose teeth that I want to heal. I have stopped playing basketball against those who play reckless/those who foul out because they can't play/those who have no skills. Those players are causing me all type of ailments and lowering my game. Prevention is the best cure!

I've never been to an ENT, but I used to do work for a number of them in the medical center so I have experienced a fairly decent "sample".

It is my experience that otolaryngologists tend to specialize a great deal. For instance, I was aquainted with one doctor who essentially only worked with voice issues, including specialising in Opera singers! Others will concern themselves with alergies, and so on.

Unfortunately, I believe that the kind of person you are looking for would be someone who tends to overlap with plastic surgery. These would be the types who do superfluous things like botox treatments for rich old sagging women. It is my experience that these types are either singularly self-absorbed or singularly interested in money even while maintaining the greatest degree of professional ethics. That is a combination that tends to disturb me and I always feel a bit uncomfortable around those types. I wish you luck in finding someone.

I also am not sure but I believe that some of what you are looking for is also a subset of Oral & Maliofacial Surgery. I may be wrong, but I tend to think of them as more "bone structure" people for the face, and ENT's as more into soft tissue structures. Of course this would be a specific subset of the profession, as Oral & Maliofacial Surgeons deal with dental issues, chronic pain issues and trauma issues as well.

In terms of people that I would recomend, I am very confident in this guy's professional skills and honesty and would recomend him in spite of the general warning I gave earlier. I don't particularly care for him personally (he kind of looks like Teddy Roosevelt IMHO, and has the same sort of personality) but I would feel comfortable with him "under the kife" and I know in general terms he does the kind of thing you are looking for.

Word nazi coming through... give me some space, people...

The word you're looking for is otorhinolaryngologist, an Ear-Nose-And-Throat specialist. Why couldn't you dudes get this right? (uhhh... you COULD use otolaryngologist, too, though... :( )

Anyway, there is this ENT dude at the building across Memorial City Mall whom I saw and diagnosed me with large turbianates, the possible cause for my snoring and recommended that I'd also straighten my nose. I have a bit of a crooked septum, and he said he'd break it and put it back in place. I will get this dude's name later for you... he takes my insurance, that's why I got him referred from Dr. Peterson (Town & Country).
