I don't know what Camby's original quotes were, this is a translation of Chinese translation, just thought the report does make some sense, FYI only.

"... Yao are I are two kinds of centers, I am more defense oriented, he has better offensive skills. Actually I was a good player offensively when I was in college, but JVG changed me. You[reporters] should let Yao know, "be cautious, don't let JVG turn yourself another Camby [losing your offensive skills and become another defensive player]..."

    LOCK THIS THREAD!!!

First, Camby started his NBA career as a Raptors (2 years before heading to the knicks) complete with his injury bargage.

    Camby's NBA career stats

I am not sure how many here rememeber his days as a minuteman. Dominating, albeit it marginally, folks like Dontae Jones and Wallace means jack in the NBA. He is what he is. What am I missing here? Of course it must be a story on conjured up in tom.com - what else do you expect?

sounds accurate.....Yao used to be able to score in a lot more different ways before JVG came along.

Yeah, and since Steve and Cuttino left, Yao hasn't had another fast break opportunity like in Portland last year where he pulled off a behind-the-back dribble on SAR for a wide open dunk either! JVG has been to the Finals, Neither Tracy nor Yao have. I'll ride JVG until right before we become a lottery team. :p

Actually JVG made camby into a great player. he taught the basics of defense. he was a raw skinny kid coming from toronto to NY.

that JVG "changed" Camby, as he claims, is the only reason he's still in the NBA.

Since when has Camby become a great player? If he is a great player, I can easily list 200-300 NBA players that are greater than Camby.

I dont get what's so hard to believe? Yao could have been and could still be a much more potent offensive weapon with a better coach.

Rudy tried to utilize Yao's passing and high post game. All Gundy wants to do is let Yao tire out by constantly banging down low.

This is absolute and total BS. I've got Yao's entire 1st season under RT on tape and all you'll see is Yao going ISO in the low block while Francis, Mobley and Griffin stand perfectly still at the 3 point line.

JVG kills everyones offensive skills. Look at TMac, he has dropped significantly on the offensive side of the ball. Yao MIng has dropped too, he almost NEVER goes for those midrange jumpers. The kid is always trapped in the post. Look at francis and mobley, JVG ruined their career because of his offense. Francis isnt an allstar anymore and people have completely forgotten him.

JVG never gets the blame for bad offense, but look at guys who played for him and compare their offensive numbers with their career numbers.

You call everyone a yof, with the barest bit of evidence. Makes me think you are either stupid or a closet YOF. Why do you get so much pleasure calling people this as if it was such a derogatory term?

He's putting up 17-13 with 3+ blocks and 1.5+ steals.

Statistically, he's having the best season of any NBA center this year.

Camby is a skinny jumping jack. Yao is a plodding big man. They are completely different types of players.

Camby averaged 20 pts a game his junior year in college, then came out. For comparison, Swift averaged 16 a game as a sophomore - Camby averaged 14 as a sophomore.

I seriousely doubt Camby said this. you should'nt be posting dribble lies like this. some journalist made this bs up to make a name for himself. You and i are two kinds of centers? i am more defense oriented? comon. what a load of cow dung.

There may be some truth to this. I've heard it from other "pundits" - such as that jackass Charley Rosen (who has been correct about Stromile) - or Bill Walton (for what that's worth).

It does seem that Yao's offensive game had more versatility his rookie year - but then again it might be opposing teams doing their scouting. Many people on this board do think he should take more midrange-20 feet jumpers. He used to hit those at a decent clip. I don't know if that JVG's fault or what though.

How has JVG destroyed yao's offensive career? When JVG took over, Yao was putting up 18 a game, now he is putting up 20 a game. not to mention how yao's defense and shot blocking has improved under gundy. Granted JVG could or should use yao's passing ability a little more, but the argument that JVG has destroyed yao's offensive career thus far is rubbish.
