I wanted to see what our chances of making the playoffs were, so I made a guess on what our season record might be. I made the following assumptions. -Yao returns on Feb 27th -No more significant injuries Our current record is 10-14. We have about 32 games before Yao is predicted to return. If we beat the bad teams, our record could reasonably be 15-17. From February 27th to the end of the season we have 26 games. If we beat all but serious playoff teams, we could go 18-8 over that time. That would leave us with a season record of 43-39 (52.4%). Last year Memphis was the eighth seed with a record of 45-37 (54.8%) and the combined win loss record of the West playoff teams was 426-230 (64.9%). Currently the eighth seed has a record of 14-12 (53.8%) and the top eight teams have a combined win loss record of 124-74 (62.6%). If things continue on the same path, and the lower seeds are a little weaker in the West than they were last year, I think we could be fighting for an eighth seed this year..... BUT, it will most likely be for a series with San Antonio, which would be as difficult a matchup as we could possibly draw.
Yeah, This season is probably one of the most dissappointing of all time for the Rockets. Such high hopes, and so many injuries. I think it would be a miracle for them to make the playoffs, but I hope the team does not panic and trade Luther for some nearly over the hill player. I am almost willing to take on Spree....almost. DD
It will be interesting to see if your prediction holds up. 18-8 over the last 26 games is wildly hopeful considering how we have played against losing teams. Even at full strength, we have no outside shooting and team speed. Frankly, I think we are cooked.
Please forgive DaDakota, who is typically rational and insightful, but in his moment of despair has departed from the road of reason and has fallen into the deep abyss of desperation and has "almost" uttered an obscenity. Amen.
i think that assuming we beat the bad teams is asking a lot. we are the worst team in the league right now on paper.
At this very moment we look bad, but we have Tracy McGrady. Mutombo, Barry, Anderson, and Alston will be returning well before Yao. I don't think we can beat elite teams without Yao, but we should be able to play good defense with Mutombo, and a somewhat replenished lineup should be able to score enough points to beat sub .500 teams.
I think a record that bad is near impossible. That would mean that we go 17-41 for the rest of the season. Unless things get worse (unlikely) we will probably have a full roster for the last 26 or so games. if we go .500 during that time we would have 13 wins. Asking for 4 wins over the next 32 games seems pretty reasonable. I think a worst case scenario (barring further injuries) is a win total in the 30's.
I don't think we can win 15 out of next 32. And even if we are there, the team would be too far away from playoff to have the morale to compete. Just check last year's Lakers. They lost their last 19 of 21 once out of playoff picture.
the sky is falling the sky is falling let's all go into an hysterical panic!! Our coach isn't r****ded, and McGrady is a great passer. Toronto got us with a shock tactic, but I can't see that happening again. If teams double McGrady on every possession, then expect to see them paying badly for it! I predict we win at least half of our games while Ming is out. When he returns we go on a tear. Season record? 44-38 at worst.
if it were only yao that was out. rafer out sura out DA out mutombo out and old barry out and to top it off TMac is clearly not 100% i'm glad you are trying to be a team cheerleader but its just not reality. we are a very bad and untalented team right now. furthermore, if you want to argue that teams will pay for doubling on T-Mac then I just have to wholeheartedly disagree because our shooters can't shoot to help out T-Mac. we have one player (head) who will hit a 3pt shot. everyone else sucks...i want to cry when i see wesley shoot. it has been like this all year too. we are lotto bound and there is simply no way around it.
ugh this is not a good time to do this thread. Overall I think we'll be a 46-49 win team and grab thew 6th or 7th seed.
let me add a footnote...if our shooters suddenly start hitting shots like they haven't been all year then we have a chance to maintain during this rough stretch. but i am not putting my money on it. our team hates to make wide open shots that yao and tmac give them. barry will hit them but he is out, same thing with sura but he is out.
48 is optimism, not pessimism. 60 is impossible. We would have to finish the season 50-8. Hakeem and Jordan would find that difficult.
