meh, it doesn't bother me that the Yankees got a good bat. Seems to me they will find some way to generate controversey and end up not winning it all in the end. I enjoy seeing the Red Sox lose a good player, though. They got way too much slack in the Salary Cap Suckage hate war just because of the stupid curse. Well, now the curse is lifted, and you still have the 2nd highest payroll, significantly. No more complaints, b****es.

Damon is not a patient hitter. He swings at and fouls off every pitch. He's in the mold of Vlad/Soriano, who has to swing at every ball. Going back to his KC days, he starts off ice cold and picks it up the second half of the season. Last year he started hot and faded. $26 Mil for Damon and Matsui? Only the foolish.

May I ask why you keep bringing that up? Do you have a problem with Drayton doing that or with the story about it?

I already explained this in that thread. And I will continue to bring it up as long as he keeps firing well like broadcasters and sitting on his ass.

edit: I really wasn't worried about the Astros offseason but when he bought the bulldozer, it was just typical p.r. drayton. the timing was a little to perfect.

Good Pick up for the Yankees but I hate the fact that there is no loyalty in baseball anymore. Relativley speaking the Yankees did not overpay on this deal and Damon is a good bat

Willie T was a rookie, I never said his numbers were better... but he is also 9 years younger and will make roughly $350,000 next season compared to Damon's 13 million and Taveras will make below 1 million for at least the next 2, maybe 3 seasons. Also, Damon's high slugging came from playing half of his games in Fenway in the American league... so please don't say they are outstanding. He's way overpaid at 13 million... and like I said earlier I'd take Willy T over him any day of the week for that very reason.

There isn't loyalty in any major league sports... and hasn't been for decades.

Yeah, I hate uncle Drayton for getting us to the World Series this year, the NLCS last year and the playoffs 6 of the last 9 years.

Beginning of another curse? Oh I guess not since they didn't trade him to the Yanks.

who cares...its another horrible contract and cashman continues to prove was a horrible gm he is.

    cashman's thinking...

hmmm...lets see....50+ mln on another hitter or 50+ on another pitcher? eh, screw it. pitching doesn't really win championships. so what hitter do we sign? how about a great leadoff hitter who is past his prime and we will pay him 10 mln a year!!!!

who wants to bet damon has his worst year since KC? cashman just loves to overpay guys and now damon can lay back and rake in the dough.

that being said i love damon's game and he is a great clutch hitter and run scorer, but this contract for a guy at this point in his career is stupid.

Well I have been mulling over what to say about this...

On one hand, I do believe that the Yankees overpaid ridiculously for Damon but that is their MO, so no surprise there.

There was an interview that Damon did last season in which he pretty much said he could "never see himself go to the Yankees". Um, yea right, Johnny.

But I am also somewhat furious at the bumbling Larry Lucchino. I was always worried about this guy when he came in because I know of his track record (had a successful team in San Diego and did a fire sale) and my only wish is for him to keep the team competitive. But the Sox now need a SS and a CF and who knows who is going to bat leadoff (Loretta?); the Co-GMs thing is an incredibly r****ded idea that won't work. Just swallow your ****ing pride, Larry and bring Theo Epstein back. And you also have Manny *supposedly* desperately wanting out of Boston. It would be great to get Tejada for him but me thinks the Orioles would also want something like Papelbon and Marte AND for the Red Sox to pay them for Manny's contract (thanks Dan Duquette for signing such a montrosity to begin with) - so I doubt that will happen.

But if somehow they can get Torii Hunter and Miggy Tejada, then maybe my wrath towards Lucchino will subside. But I am not counting on those 2 players to be wearing Boston caps this upcoming season.

But hey good for the Yankees - they keep bringing in all these big-time FAs or making trades like they did for A-Rod. I guess Damon wanted to join A-Hole Rodriguez, the Big Unit, Pavano, Moose, The Clear Sheffield, and Steroids Giambi in being ringless Yankees. :p

EDIT - just saw that ESPN is running one of their goofy "Ask the Sports Nation" stuff on who is the best CF and Andruw Jones is leading in every state except one and that is Missouri where Jim Edmonds leads. As usual, ESPN overhyping a player...LOL.

Chill out - I didnt say anything about Drayton. I was a season ticket holder up until last year when I moved to Nebraska and have nothing bad to say about the guy.

Anyone here read Damon's book. I seem to remember that he states in the book that he would never play for the Yankees for unspecified reasons or reasons I cannot recall. If my recollection is correct, I have lost a lot of respect for Damon. He was at the top of the list of my favorite non-Astro ballplayers, enough so that I actually read his damn book.

God, I hate the Yankees and everything they represent.

Great, he'll just have to go to the Angels next and then he'll have been a member of all the teams in my Axis of Evil.

    Go A's.

Offensively, the guy'll be great. This Yankee lineup will be sick, and that's even if Giambi wallows in steroid-withdrawl. It'll be hard for anyone to keep these guys off the bases, and that allows everyone to feed off of one another.

Defensively, he *could* get exposed in CF - he's been slipping the last few seasons. Matsui might be forced to cover a little for both him and Shef.
