If we were to finish the season with 3 wins, we could slide down to the #3-5 pick, and I think that most of us fear that we will indeed beat SF to get that 3rd win. GB, NYJ, and NO all have 3 wins right now and all have a weaker SOS at this point. We could easily finish the year tied with at least 2 of them: GB: CHI (L), SEA (L) NYJ: NE (L), BUF (?) NO: DET (?), @TB (L) So we need to be GB, NYJ, and NO fans these last two weeks. Go win some football games!!! <iframe src="http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/draft/update" width=600 height=600></iframe>
Ironically, sliding down to a lower pick may just save us from ourselves (temptation) and force us to take an o-lineman. That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the team.
I agree. I think we are in a no lose situation with this years draft. Some wins may be better than others though.
True, but it sure would be nice to have the #1 or #2 pick to trade down with. I have a feeling that there will be a group of teams to make bids for Bush at #1, and then another group of teams to make bids for the #2 pick to grab Leinart. If NO and/or NYJ are in that group, it would be nice to move down to 3, 4, or 5, take Brick and also gain a strong extra pick to help out at another position. Of course with all this wheeling and dealing, the assumption is that we have a good GM to execute the trade. Hopefully whoever our GM is will be able to make good decisions.
Well the problem there is, if you trade down from #1 and don't pick Bush, you're dooming yourself (whoever the GM is) to be ridiculed for years to come--possibly. A new GM especially may not want to start out with that possibility.. I think the point was that if we're STUCK with the #2 or 3 pick, then we'll be fine because we'll be forced to take an OL.
Freakin Texans, its just like theme to start winning now. Hopefully we'll lose aganist the Jags, but we'll probaly win aganist rhe Niners
I want this team to get the second pick because I believe Lienart is more valuable as a tradable comodity than Bush. Running Backs are a dime a dozen. Franchise qbs are harder to come by, they last longer, they have a bigger impact on winning.
Assuming we get #2, we'll have to hope that a team like NO or NYJ get the #3 pick because they would probably take Leinart. GB just took Aaron Rogers last year, so they wouldn't want Leinart, right? If the team at #3 is not likely to take Leinart, that will weaken the trade value of the #2 pick, correct?
It would be criminal to draft a QB until we have OL that can pass protect. See Pittsburgh and Roethlisberger last year.
I doubt we can beat Jax. Although we do seem to always play them tough. I wouldn't be surprised at all by a win over the 49ers though. Hey, if we end the season with a #3 pick and get da-brick, I'm perfectly fine with that.
If your comment is in reference to my post, I'm not saying that we should draft a QB. I just think that the #2 pick will have a higher trade value if the team with the #3 pick will take Leinart. Then other teams interested in Leinart will be forced to trade up to #2 if they want him. My personal preference would be that we come away from the draft with with Brick plus an extra high draft pick. I'll settle for Brick alone, but would much rather be able to trade down so we can upgrade at another position in addition to getting Brick.
Average RB's maybe but not game changing RB's. All you Bush haters crack me up. Theres all these reasons we should draft OL with ou first pick instead of the best prospects to come around in 10 years. Thats how he is regarded by people that are paid for their opinion, Experts! Take a look at the Pro Bowl Running backs. Tiki Barber, Warrick Dunn both made it and neither one of them are over 200 lbs. Bush is faster, quicker and more deceptive than either of them. Theres no way you can pass up a player that can make the kind of difference a player like Bush can give you. There are enough OT in this draft that a pretty good one will be available for us in the 2nd round.
