I went to Best Buy and concluded that these are probably the best 2 cameras in their price range ($299, probably save some money online) The SD-400 is a lot smaller, but I heard that the smaller cameras have worse image quality. Basically I want to know if anyone can tell me if the loss of image quality and features on the SD400 is enough to pass on it and get the A610, which seems a little bulky. I will be using this camera mostly for vacations and for special events. Also if you guys think that there is a better camera for that price range, let me know and why.
I decided to not be so lazy and read up on it a little bit and turns out it is near perfect for a camera so small but has lots of issues with red-eye. Is this true? Also they say the zoom seems to be lacking, which I kind of thought so too.
SD400 and other pcoket camera have bad lighting issues. I tried taking pics at the Lakers/Rockets game with the Konica Minolta Dimage X50 and the final photos looked like it was at a hs gym. It's not a quality issue, but a structural one. But for quick occasions, parties, and areas with good outdoor sunlight, the SD400 is perfect
I just bought a SD400 but it was a present so cant really comment on the quality yet. Best price ive seen is from dell. http://slickdeals.net/?from=2005-12-01&to=2005-12-31#p6831 Dell Small Business has the Canon SD400 5MP Digital Camera for $249 - $25 off $150 coupon NSRBV7T5Q7$R3C = $224 w/ free shipping. Search for A0550683 to find it. Thanks Hydraridaz. Another option is to add the 512MB SD Card and apply $50 off $300 coupon ZPT2BGSTH27D6 to get both for $248. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...=us&l=en&cs=04&category_id=2999&page=external I got mine at newegg. I saw the dell deal a day after i ordered it lol. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16830120170
They both have video up to 60 fps. The 610 is nice with the flip lcd but it uses 4 AA batteries which make it bulky. I have the 450 and it's great. The optical zoom is weak, but overall it's terrific for it's size. A few weeks ago at Dell, the 610 was $204 after coupon and the 450 was $267 after coupon. That's the cheapest I've seen.
Sorry to derail but.... Anyone know anything about the zoom cameras? Im looking at cameras like the Panasonic Lumix 5.0-Megapixel Digital Camera linkylink
http://www.dcresource.com for all your camera reviews with photo samples! They also have some pretty good forums! They don't have a review for the A610 but they do for the A620. Not your camera but, you still get some insight into these cams. You can also check out their Canon forums for info on the A610! Here's their review for the SD400 the main difference with these 2 cameras is the A series uses batteries, AA's to be exact, the PowerShot SD series uses a small rechargeable battery. I have an SD500 and it has good battery life and takes great pictures, I'm sure at 5 MP you will be happy with either camera. Good luck!
Panasonic's Lumix series are nice superzoom cameras- you get a good 10x-12x optical zoom, a Leica lens (Leica is considered one of the best , even possibly the best, lens makers in the world, and Panasonic's optical image stabilization which can help quite a bit with image blur due to camera shake. the only drawback i've read concerning the Lumix line is that image noise can be problematic... also consider Sony H1 or Canon S2 or its G-series for equivalent superzooms.
I got an SD400. I got it for $250 online w free shipping. go to www.cnet.com click on shopper and do a search for it online.
to add to that, supposedly the screen on the sd450 is less prone to cracking than the one on the sd400. they reinforced the lcd in some way...
I just got the SD 400 on Sunday at Best Buy... not the cheapest overall price, but when you've received $150 in Best Buy gift cards, it worked out to a $125 camera... not too bad. I really like having the compact rechargable battery instead of having to lug around double AAs when I go on trips. Eventually, it will cost about $50 to replace the rechargable, but I should get a lot of miles out of it first.
Are you talking about receiving the gift cards as a gift, or receiving them with the purchase? Just wanted to know..
